If it was street fighting nobody knows who would win and nobody will find out unless someone trains like Bruce Lee from a very young age and becomes as good as him.
Bruce Lee, had he known of MMA as a sport, would have trained for the ground game. As it is, he did demonstrate knowledge of ground fighting. One example was Game of Death, even though it was a film, where he choked out Kareem Abdul Jabaar in the final fight scene. It was a choregraphed film fight, but that entire end-fight sequence displayed that Lee was thinking about an incredible variety of fight styles.

If Bruce Lee were younger and able to have been in the UFC in the last five years at a competitive age, with his original skill set intact and added in more ground fighting (wrestling, BJJ. Judo, etc), then I have no doubt that he would be the best LW MMA fighter in the world. There would have been classic matches between Lee and Penn, as well as a fight between Lee and Gomi and other top fighters.

Lee and Penn share something, many things, in common. They both have that drive to test themselves all across the board. They both have a great deal of fighting knowledge. I think that we would all agree that Bruce Lee would have the better cardio and physical conditioning. Ah well, this is all idle speculation. Hey, naybe somebody will invent a video game that can somehow accurately account for Bruce Lee's skill sets and have him in the video game arena able to fight modern fighters. Something like the premise of Rocky Balboa (Rocky VI).
