If you want to really expend some energy find a pool. It's nearly zero impact but it will absolutely kill you. The best shape I've ever been in was when I was swimming competetively. It'll use muscles you never knew you had. I love the treadmill, the bike, and the eliptical, but to this day I still haven't found anything to beat doing 30 minutes of continous front crawl. If you've never tried swimming laps before give it a shot. The pool was the primary reason I joined a YMCA.
