What are the controls like? Is there a pretty learning curve, or are they pretty easy to learn once you get going?
Well, keep in mind that it's turn based and menu-driven, not what they call "twitch" (twitch means that you have to actually dodge and attack in real time, and your skill and dexterity are what count). If you played any of the old Final Fantasy games, I'd compare it to that.

There is, however, tons of strategy and technique to the combat because you have a lot of abilities that interact with each other and your teammates' abilities in a wide variety of ways. So you definitely have to learn how to play your class (warrior, priest, rogue, mage, etc) if you want to do well at the game. The good thing is the game starts you off very slowly and teaches you the basics as you progress.

You can always find people to group with (I disagree with the earlier statement that there are more idiots and kids playing WoW than EQ. There are just more people playing all together, and there are plenty of mature players), or you can also play solo. Some classes are easier to do that than others. As a rogue, I'm able to stealth past enemies to get to those hard-to-reach places, I can backstab to do major damage before my victim even has a chance to respond, and if things get too tough I can vanish in a puff of smoke and get away.
