Default Indiana Jones IV: Who's the real problem?

Okay. You may know that Lucas, Spielberg and Harrison Ford have been wanting to make a fourth Indiana Jones film for a long time, but they obviously want it to be great and for a long time they couldn't get a script that they were all happy with. Their agreement is that all three of them have to approve the script, or there's no film.

Last month they announced that they finally have one they love, and the film is going forward. They're just in the initial design and pre-production stage at the moment, and the film is HOPEFULLY scheduled for release in late 2008 (probably Christmas).

Before anyone harps on how old Harrison Ford is, yeah -- we know. In fact, he's older now than Sean Connery was in the previous film. But I think Indiana Jones is the kind of character that can get older, and you see him having to deal with it. No problem.

BUT...

There's a rumour going around right now that says the studio, under union pressure, is insisting that they don't use a real bullwhip anymore. It's dangerous, and now that CGI is so good, they can just have a digitally inserted whip.

If the rumour is true, Harrison Ford says that if he can't use a real bullwhip, as he did in the first three films, he's walking and killing the film.

So my question, as stated in the title, is who's being the bigger knob -- the people who are insisting that the whip be CGI, or Harrison Ford for seeing that as a big enough reason to kill a film that a lot of fans have been waiting forever to see?

The union for sure, that's utterly ridiculous. Pretty soon it's going to be to dangerous for people to walk across the street so they're just going to put them on push carts and digitally insert legs. Good for Ford for standing up for what he thinks is best for the film.

I think its the union. The whip is part of who Indiana Jones is...just as much as the hat is. That would be like asking to make a Rocky with cgi gloves, or dirty harry with a cgi 44 magnum. Just some things should stay the way they are.

Oh Christ. I lost track after Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom where dude ate snakes.

The series SUCKED and will continue to SUCK after...

I think Harrison Ford needs to retire. Unless he comes back as Hans Solo in a future Star Wars flick???? Harrison Ford needs to STFU!

I think the third one is better than the second, but the first one's an untouchable classic. Harrison Ford pretty much has retired. At this point, he's only doing a movie every few years. I guess it's no secret that I'm eager for a fourth Indy film, but I worry about George Lucas' involvement. I don't want him to give this series the Star Wars prequel treatment, with a bunch of computer generated crap and the actors doing all their work in front of a greenscreen.
