Many of you have heard of the alleged CroCop conspiracy that has emerged on some MMA blogs. The rumor is that CroCop has total allegiance to Pride and that his crossover is only to discredit the UFC until his eventual return to Pride.

Here's the theory in a nutshell: CroCop signs with the UFC for the purpose of beating Sylvia (or Couture) for the HW title. Then, he takes on and (potentially) beats Liddell for the LW title. After the conclusion of his six-fight contract, he returns to Pride having discredited two of the UFC's champions (and arguably the most popular champion in Liddell). Having proved that the UFC has "inferior" fighters, Pride gains renewed popularity. UFC reels from losing a their new two-belt champion, suffers a loss of credibility of their home-grown champions, and are out the $2.5 million they paid to CroCop prior to his popularity peaking among the general fan base.

While this theory is far-fetched at best and completely ridiculous at worst, CroCop's recent actions made me take a second look the rumor that I easily dismissed at first glance. For one, CroCop's failure to participate in both the pre- and post-fight news conferences, as well as his lack of participation in any of the UFC's pre-event marketing. Second, when questioned about his use of the Pride theme song for his entrance music, CroCop stated he had his reasons and that they were private. While far from incriminating, it did make me raise an eyebrow.

I still believe that this is BS, but for argument's sake lets assume that it is true. Will the UFC have the opportunity to buyout Pride before Mirko's six-fight contract expires? Would the UFC truly suffer if this scenario did take place?

HAHAHA who have been coming up with these Conspiracy theories ??? They wouldn't happen to be Giant Pride fans who dislike UFC ? same guys who knock on chuck Liddell 24/7 or are these the guys who Believe Arona puts on the most exciting fights in MMA history. Everyone is entitled to there theories and opinions but once enough people start watching and cheering for there favourite fighters because of there talents and NOT for which fighting Corporation there fighting with, we will cut down on some narrow minded channel clicking fight fans.

I think its all rubbish his contract is for 2 years or something isn't it? So hes staying in the UFC for 2 years then off back to Pride having beaten the HW and LHW champ...I dont think so. Dana and the UFC decides who hes fights and I dont think they will let him fight Liddell anytime soon.

I'm beginning to think rather than being a secret agent for Pride, he might just be being pushed as the Ivan Drago type "villain" here...There's just too much going on for this not to be scripted somehow.

What better way than make enemies with the hardcore UFC fans?...Come out to the competitions theme song, don't do any pre/post-fight interviews and just turn the cold bastard volume up a few notches.

Now we just need the superstar fan favorite to battle Goliath...Couture anybody?

I bet Dana is laughing behind closed doors...Or I'm just helping spread the conspiracy bug around here.

Why in the world would Dana do that...Surely he would want to good guy to win and Couture is not beating CroCop (the bad guy in your case) anytime soon, if ever. I just think Couture doesn't like the lime light so is staying away from cameras, etc.

I can't believe no one even said anything about his interview right after he signed..........The reason he signed with the UFC was $$$$$ plain and simple he said him self PRIDE didn't try to match what the UFC offered him cuz they couldn't.

Some people live in a WWE dreamland. The bottom line is CroCop's in the UFC because they offered him way more money and he's got a great chance to win the HW title before the summer -- something he's been unable to do in Pride. He's in his 30s now, he's got his share of nagging injuries, and he's probably starting to think about retiring in the next couple of years.

Some of these jokers think he's going to call Fedor and the Pride execs out to the octagon some night at a UFC show and they're going to laugh like supervillains as Dana White's jaw drops and his eyes fill up with tears. Come on.

I think the most likely conspiracy is that Pride fans are pised that the UFC so easily stold Mirko and are in denial that Pride's days are few at best and in immediate jeopardy at worst.

Pride fans are just in denial that the organization isn't likely to be existing in its current form with its current fighters much longer.

Honestly, I think that's another conspiracy theory. Most PRIDE-fans are also UFC-fans. Some like the other org better, some like them as much, but who the hell ONLY likes one of them? Nobody, that's a true MMA-fan imo.

Besides, why would these assumed PRIDE-nuthuggers be pissed about seeing PRIDE's former #2 HW whoop everyone in the UFC?

Do you guys really think CroCop would be that indeabted to some company to help them make more money........ Plus why would CroCop show is cards so early if it was a play by saying "keep it to myself" and not attending the meetings. To be able to fight like he does he is obviously not a stupid guy and I don't think he would show his cards so easily. Now if that doesn't prove it to you then let me tell you the more obvious reason. IT IS STUPID TO EVEN THINK OR CARE WHAT HE DOES. Just be glad he is in the UFC and enjoy it. CroCop will do what is best for him and it is his buisness. I'll just enjoy his next 5 fights and hope he resigns.
