Would not suprise me if some former military guys, continue to do some of the things they did in the army to improve their endurance in tough situations(Ex: MMA).

i think the mental discipline is a bigger thing than the physical, but they're both huge. there's a lot of great athletes that are in amazing shape but will still quit if they're put in a bad position for a long enough time. i think someone with great army training would be able to work generally well under any situation mentally.
