Superman Punch?
Why do fighters try this? Is it because to try and get the crowd all crazy? Or is it a desperation move to try and put a hole in the oppoenents defense?
I mean once in a blue moon it lands, and occasionally it rocks someone. But why try it?
I just wondered what all your opinions are on
The Superman Punch?

Could you show what a superman punch is. I have the basic idea I just want to see who has tried it.

The Superman Punch is very silly looking, and at first I decided not to train it because I didn't think it would be all that effective, but from watching fights I've realized that about one out of three that get thrown land, and when it lands it's usually very destructive, and when it misses, the opponent is surprised enough that he doesn't have time to take advantage of any openings. I can't recall a single time when somebody attempted a Superman punch and ended up getting caught.
Of course, you have to throw a few leg kicks to open him up for it.

Check out the very end of round 1 in the second Hughes/GSP fight. GSP dropped Matt with a Superman punch and almost ended the fight but Matt got saved by the bell.

superman punch is one of best things to do in a fight. if you do it right it is almost a one shot ko. easily the most powerful punch yo can throw in a fight.

Well its very powerful since it uses a lot of you body in the motion plus it is almost a DBL-Faint it looks like both a kick and a punch from the opposite hand most of the time, So it makes it harder for them to block it or move out of the way.

the main reason i would do it is cause i would want to confuse my opponent.
i think it throws them off a little.
and if it lands....

the superman punch is a one time deal in any fight. it either lands or it does'nt but from the fights i have seen its not something your going to be able to fool your opponent with more than once. its fun, its a crowd pleaser and sometimes it works. nothing wrong with keeping it in your bag of tricks. sure its not scientific boxing but MMA is'nt boxing.

This is very true. I'm not downing it at all, it's definitely something if you land it, Bam. It could end a fight.
Especially if you've got the other guy tired and he's starting to leave himself opened up more.

the superman punch actually reminds me of the JKD straight lead but done without using the lead hand.

THe superman punch is overrated, I think. My buddy only practices these on my heavy bag cause he thinks they are a one shot KO. When we spar and he throws them I know when they are coming and parry and blast him with hooks to the gut, pisses him off everytime. lol

I'm pretty sure it's not the most powerful punch you can throw.

I would say an uppercut or a hook with when you use your hips, these are the punches that count.

I would agree. I don't think there is a most powerful punch that's the same for each person. I know my hardest punch is a right hook. That could have something to do with my having a huge back. My cousin is lean and fast, he can't hook too hard but his right straight is a bomb. I have trouble putting my weight behind a straight compared to a hook.
