Here's all the info that's been released so far. THQ is the company, but they have yet to announce the actual developer, so it could be anyone. It's the equivalent of saying Miramax is putting a movie out, but you want to know who's actually going to MAKE the movie, right?
THQ has an exclusive deal with the UFC through 2011, and their plan is to do this the way EA does their sports titles, with a new one every year that has updated graphics, some new features, and an updated roster. I'm cool with that, because if you like the one you've got, no one's forcing you to buy the new one. But if you're eager to have the hot new s**t and the newest fighters, you can get it.
They've already said that they plan on producing games for all three next-gen consoles, portables, and PC. I'm particularly excited about PC, because it opens up the possibility of talented fans creating their own patches and content and uploading it to the web.
They said they hope to have the first one out in 2008, but the game sites that have covered this have acknowledged that since it's only in the very prelimary design stages, that's being really optimistic. When a company starts from scratch, it can often take over two years from the drawing board to putting it on shelves.
Who knows, though -- maybe they'll be using the engine from one of their WWE games? I know that might turn some of you off, but those games are pretty good.
