The thing is that Russell has footwork issues and gets a lot of heat for it...He has a cannon for an arm, that's no question...the guy can throw 65 yards on kid knees...seriously...If the Raiders think they can transform him into a franchise QB then they will pick him. Pretty much every ESPN reporter predicts that Russell will be number one even though Calvin Johnson is the top scouted player.
I'm going to make an argument for Johnson because nobody else does. Most ESPN reporters say take Russell because the team needs a QB to throw the ball before you get a WR. First of all this is no regular WR...this is an anomaly, he has sick receiving skills, is one of a kind and the top scouted player. Also Russell is not going to make the Raiders a winning team alone. They have serious O-Line issues so if Russell is a Raider; look for the clips of him on his back. Russell is a questionable QB in some respects like footwork and weight. Johnson will not make this franchise a winning one either, but at least they will have the next year to find their franchise QB in the draft (they will probably have a top 5 pick) So one argument that is hardly discussed is get the one of a kind WR and wait for your QB for next years Draft or free agency.
