Default TUF 5 Most Irritating Things: Your Take?

Okay.

1. Listening to BJ Penn during the fights is just nuts. I mean the guy won't shut up! It's his job but he is giving so much information that everyone in the gym must be thinking the same thing. It's so crazy it makes me laugh. Go ahead and listen to the last fight! Do this! Do that! "Move that arm to your left, grab his hands and roll to your side and choke him!!!" That type of thing is just classic and painful to listen to.

2. The cheesy Burger King standing where the information is lame and pointless. The shot of all the fighters turning their heads at the same time says it all. That is very chessy and I fast forward through that pointless crap.

3. The stupid ads that block out the fighter stats. Oh, they do remove it for 2 seconds so you might see the other fighters stats if you are lucky. I just don't get that placement. It is frickin stupid. If those were my stats being blocked out, I wouldn't appreciate it. It really just bugs me.

Aside from that I love the show. Anyone else can add. Thanks!

If I had BJ in my corner, I definitely wouldn't want him to shut up.
He's giving useful, precise advice all the time.

You can hear it better during those TUF fights because there's no crowd and the mics are right there, but a lot of people yell instructions all the time.

A loud BJ or Matt Serra would be awesome to have in your corner imo.

------------------

The most irritating thing about TUF is them picking poor fighters with "personality" or something over legit up and coming fighters.

You own a lobster restaurant? You are freakishly tall and can bark?
You have a losing record but are English and enjoy a larf?
-You guys are all in!

War Wiman? LOL. NOT!

I hate it that the UFC still feels that the idea of coach versus coach is more important than the fighters on the show.

I hate BJ Penn's role on the show. From the very start he has been a real classless act on the show.

I hate all the BS at the house -- it has NOT been entertaining.

Err...his role as coach??

why do you always have to bitch about BJ? We all know you hate him. Can we from now on assume you have something negative to say about him so you dont have to post it. Win - Win situation.

i also find the fighter standings gay.

i would like to see the guys train a bit more.

apart from that i love it. i like how the coaches shout instructions, it improves how i understand ju jitsu also. having BJ penn shout out advice in a practical situation is really cool because you can see it in action, plus the guy is rarely wrong.

i think that some of the guys have no or little place on TUF and the real winners are handpicked from the start, saying that i havnt an idea who will win it yet.

the whole fame factor bothers me and roleplaying, i feel guys like reudiger was only doing stuff to have more camera time, marlon sims was a punk who only acted liek that to also get more camera time, makes me want to root for guys like maynard who does the job and trains hard.

BJ's coaching during the fights is very specific and informative. He's telling the fighters exactly what they should do in each situation right down to hand and hip placement. Remember Ken Shamrock's coaching? "Work your submissions! Work your submissions! Relax! Take your time! Oh, you lost. Why didn't you do what I told you?"

And I definitely wouldn't say BJ's been classless on the show. I've seen a coach who's been very helpful and supportive, who rewards effort and dedication and has zero tolerance for attitude and laziness. Has he been nasty and condescending when it comes to Jens? Of course, but they've got an old grudge and a fight coming up -- that's all just part of the game. Ask anyone who was on Shamrock's team and they'll say he was a useless coach (I'm basing this on several posts on the UG from the fighters themselves), and I bet you'll hear the opposite from Team Penn. Even Andy Wang wanted desperately to stay on the team when BJ showed him the door, so that says something right there.

Yawn.
I can't joke around? I was just poking fun at your avatar of Penn Team fighters. Ah well, a sense of humor is not a strong point on these forums. As for Diego Sanchez, I've heard it all. It's all funny. It's all good. People were calling him "Dirty" Sanchez over two years ago.

You really don't want to compare Koscheck's MMA record with Sanchez's MMA record (despite the loss to Josh-Ko in an match nearly everybody agrees was the worst match and most boring match in a long time). That fight stunk for bot fighters. Nothing to brag about there.

Yeah, coach. What other role does he have?

I do not like BJ Penn, and he continues to provide more and more stuff to not like him about. He makes it easy. It really has nothing to do with his in-ring or in-octogon MMA fighting skills. It's all about the stuff he pulls outside of his matches that make me hate on the guy.

I post when I like and what I like and about what I like. If you don't like that, then do not read or respond to my posts. It's not like I tied you down and forced you to log on, forced you to read, forced you to respond, and forced you to be mad, angry, spiteful, or whatever else emotions you are going through.

I agree. The coaching, training, and fighting are the best parts of the show. BJ Penn is a great cornerman, as was Jens Pulver, in most of the matches. I wonder how much of Team Penn training was left on the cutting room floor just so they could show ridiculous drama quenn nonsense at the house?

I also felt like some of these guys did not belong. Cole Miller and Corey Hill might be exceptions. I do also feel that at least four or six of these MMA fighters were hand-picked as winners on the show. Diaz, Lauzon, Maynard, and Manny (I can never recall his last name) each seemed to be on a whole different level from the others. Wiman and Weems and maybe Melendez were a notch below those others. The remaining ten fighters were not much to brag about. Simms had promise. Emerson might go far.

The fame factor is a problem. These guys strut around like 16 rosters locked up in a hen house with no hens. They should be allowed to go places and do things. Show us less conflict and drama queen BS at the house. The conflict that we want to see is in the octagon. Let the drama be in the match. Show them being people, nornal guys, outside of the matches.

The last two or three episodes have allowed Penn to shine more as a coach. But, he has done classless stuff. The hand raising. The attempt to sway the fight selection. Kicking people off his team when Dana White clearly said that was not an option. And, DW has had to call Penn out twice now for not acting accordingly. He even said that the guys on Team Penn complained about lack of cardio training.

Andy Wang seemed to not be smart enough to see that Penn had severely disrespected Wand on national TV. And, when the better coach, Jens Pulver, allowed his team to decide to allowed Wang a place, then Wang showed how he is not so very smart. That whole scene with Wang, Pulver, and White in the office was embarrassing and ridiculous for Wang. Whatever respect he might have earned was lost right there. I even wonder if DW will allow Wang to ever again fight in the UFC.

Okay, I don't know your backgrounds on fighting, but there is such a thing as overcoaching imo. As in, screaming instructions to your fighter is like talking into the wind. At a certain point, you would get bewildered by the commands thrown out by BJ. Honestly, listen to Jens and compare. He yells things, but in a manner that a fighter could actually digest an use at that moment. No fighter is going to listen to a string of do this and do that and actually do it. They are in the ring and probably aren't hearing anything much. To compare this scenario to a UFC event? No coach could be heard unless the fight is really lame and the crowd is asleep. I have never heard such screaching in all the seasons from any of the coaches. That is what makes BJ so over the top. It's crazy honestly. Again, no fighter can be in the midst of a fight and actually listen to him and do what he is saying. Watch back over the fights and tell me how many times one of his fighters did what he was screeching. I've been watching and guess what? He screams it and they don't do it. Jens on the other hand must realize the limited influence he can have during the actual fight, so he picks and chooses strategies to yell. Seems more effective to me.

Did you not watch last season with Serra seemingly yelling "Hammer fist! Hammer Fist!" over and over again. I think you can just hear BJ better than Jens. I will say my wife said, "Man, that's annoying." about BJ's yelling.

The ads blocking the stats is utterly irritating. I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets pissed about that.

Okay, I am irritated by the amount of instructions by Penn. It's way over the top. I agree Serra and others do the same, but the difference is most coaches yell simple instructions. Simple instructions are useful to a fighter in the ring.

Some of the fighters are what I find annoying. Marlon Sims is one of the biggest morons I've seen. He's so delusional it makes me dizzy just watching him talk. I would love to hear what a psychiatrist has to say about some of these fighters, that would be very interesting. Gabe Ruediger and his attention whoring was just way too much. Those two were the most irritating things to me, and Andy Wang would have been a close third because he's easily as delusional as either of them, but he also manages to crack me up whereas Marlon just makes an ass of himself and Ruediger's need for attention is just really, really sad.

That blue-eye, brown-eye thang does creep me out. But, that's why they call him Little Evil. Or, was it because he's evil in the ring or octagon, LOL. I forget. I wonder how much that two different colored eye thing really works to creep out or intimidate an opponent?
