Default Tommy Morrison fighting, but not MMA rules

It looks like this fight is going to happen but there are rumors and leaks from people close to one of the fighters that say this is a striking only match, no ground game. I hope this isnt the case because the fight is supposed to be Morrison's MMA debut. I couldnt immagine getting hit with a shot from Morrison with 4 oz gloves on. It could produce some stunning KO's. As much as I like / liked Morrison when he was boxing, Ive pretty much seen his standup...I was more currious about his ground game and will be dissapointed if they dont include that in the fight rules.

Well, it happened. I guess I won't spoil the results, but you can find them on Sherdog or MMA weekly. 30 minutes before the fight, Tommy's camp pushed for a rule change that it would be PUNCHING only -- no knees, kicks or elbows. Stover went along with it because he's apparently the most agreeable dude on the planet.

I think this is disgusting. Whether Morrison is or isn't HIV positive is another issue entirely, but it's a blemish on the sport that he can claim an MMA win with a fight that was restricted to punching only. You're either competing in the sport or you're not, Tommy.

I agree 100%. That was not an MMA fight. It was a boxing match with tiny gloves. Of course the chances of him winning go up tremendously in such a fight. However, when he really wants to start fighting MMA rules matches then I might decide to follow how he does, untill then, hes just name to draw people to the seats in exhibition boxing matches.

Well said. He talked so much smack about how a good boxer would kill an mma fighter but fight an "mma fight" were you can only box............

I was never even a fan of the special rules that the Gracies would insist on for their supposed MMA fights. All this stuff like if it goes to the time limit it's automatically declared a draw regardless of who's winning, etc. I'm not down with these fighters who want to change the rules to protect their records. It sets a bad precedent. It's like CroCop asking that he be the only one allowed to kick in the head for his next fight.

Sherdog didn't list it as an mma match, thank god. I was really looking forward to seeing a top level boxer, or former top level boxer, compete in an mma match and was excited to see this fight signed. Such a disappointment.

Morrison is a punk. He's all talk, he doesn't want to fight MMA. He'll never go anywhere in MMA, besides fighting in backwoods indian casinos.

This is a joke.
I wish everyone would just forget about this guy and his attention whoring.

Great, a boxing match with MMA-gloves against some no-name.
You should get Chuck next!

PS. I think his chest area looks a bit weird to say the least...

I find it fishy that they had the fight on a res so they were able to bypass the athletic comission

In an interview Morrison stated that he was actually worried about killing someone with one of his punches with such small gloves. He even admitted to not even training for MMA at all. The origional rules were to be a striking match only. Then shortly before the fight, they changed it to only boxing. Ya, I think its clear that Morrison knows he couldnt hang with anyone that is even partially trained on the ground. I hope this ends up being a very fast fad and fades away. If he cant do any better than he showed in this last fight, then I have absolutely no interest in seeing him ever compete again.

LoL I'd love to see Mia fight Gina !!! Gina would probably own her so bad......Mia can't even box very well I don't know if she could even do MMA.

** Plus I was just watching Around The Horn and I swear Woody spoke about MMA like it was the name of the organization Tommy was fighting in anyone else hear that ??

Dang ESPN at least they could send there dudes to a few fights and put um threw a crash course in MMA so they don't look like idiots on TV.
