Those that think we'll get a better competition are living in a bubble i think.

Competition creates excellence as promotions are forced to look for ways to excel, differentiate, achieve stand out and find ways to make their cards and events stand out. Competing promotions have to commit extra effort to keep & grow their fan base and thus will perform better than promotions that can be lazy because they own the market as the single provider. (WWE, WWF/WCW is the example).

I believe UFC is taking the easy way out, by buying the competitor, loot, pillage and sack, which in the long run IMHO will not benefit the sport, because the element of competition between UFC and PRIDE will be gone.

The great thing of owning both promotions would be that you can control the competition and control the way the sport is developed from here on.

What is wrong with keeping the two biggest promotions in the world alive in order to grow the sport, the international fan base and the Zuffa purse in the proces while competition creates excellent fight card and more exposure to different crowds?

As I said, just an opinion.
