Thanks Comucazi.
Tim Struby was cutting it close. He took a couple of jabs at MMA, but because it was more of a debate between a boxing guy and an MMA guy, we're bound to read something a little derogatory.
What do you think, should blacklist him?

Barry Mcguigan.
i used to like and to a certain extent still like him (he is irish mikes friend) and world champion boxer.
But don't tell me these finely-honed musclemen are human fighting machines.
Take away the kick and they would not stand a chance against a boxer. It takes years to develop competence in the ring.
Not for nothing is boxing known as the sweet science. The UFC boys spend most of their time rolling about on the floor grappling with limbs entwined.
Any punches they let go or any punches they throw have no leverage and carry only the weight of their arms.
When a world-class boxer hits you his punches are anchored to the floor. Every fibre from his big toe through to his legs and trunk explode when the fist hits the target.
The blood you see in UFC is a consequence of the limited protection in the gloves, not the impact of the punches. Compared to a UFC shot a boxer's punch feels like a sledgehammer.
In my view we are not comparing like with like, therefore I don't see the threat UFC poses to boxing.
It has a different rhythm. It gives primacy to size and strength as opposed to boxing, which places far more emphasis on speed and balance.
Holding and stifling your opponent shapes the UFC drama. As a result it slows down the action.
You can get explosive moments but nothing of the quality seen in London last weekend when Graham Earl and Mike Katsidis went toe to toe for five thunderous rounds and Michael Sprott poleaxed Audley Harrison with a punch from outer space.
The sight of Harrison, all 6ft 5ins and 18 stone of him, toppling like a giant redwood defined boxing.
Inherent in that explosive moment was drama way beyond the gift of UFC
BLOODY AND THRILLING.. BUT NOT THE ULTIMATE IN FIGHTING - McGuigan - Columnists - Sport - Mirror.co.uk
this is light in comparison to what barry has said in the past, so much so that micheal bisping invited him to his gym to show him what MMA is all about

I dont think what's been said here is anti MMA?? He's just stating his opinion! He prefers boxing! I dont think he is sledging MMA? I agree with him on the punching thing 100%! I cant see how anyone could say otherwise!
Can we make a counter thread for anti boxing guys like Dana, Joe Rogan and Bomber? Make it happen Bull!

i think a fellow professional shouldnt make such uninformative and non researched points when writing in a national tabloid newspaper. i read something more damaging before but this is the only link i can find.

Ok the "rolling around on the floor" comment is disrespectful and misinformed! But is it any worse than Dana Mouthing off and saying "Boxing is dead?" which is as a misinformed comment as any!
The rest of the article is fair game in my opinion! I really dont think he is slagging off MMA here! He accepts is different to Boxing! and the rest is his opinion! Which as a columnist, he has a right to give! On the Hatton fight last night, the documentary on Ricky showed him reading an article in which Barry critised him.(After the Urango fight) Ricky got p**sed off! Barry said after watching that bit on the documentary, that If he sat on the fence all the time he wouldn't be doing his job! What would be the point in reading his column, if you weren't getting HIS views on something?
Again, you say the other article is worse, but I havent read it yet.

i just dont even get the whole idea of compairing the two sports, its like comparing night and day. they are both fighting sports but i mean they are so different.

Thanks for the post, Nimms.
The guy is clearly ignorant, but didn't seem to go out of his way to bash MMA.
I dunno, didn't seem like enough to warrant a blacklisting.
What do you think, Nimms...Yay or nay?

I say nay, firstly because it is not a huge MMA bash, and secondly, it was published in a tabloid, and those are generally full of gossip and lies to begin with, about as trustworthy as a schizophrenic with alsheimers.

MMA WEEKLY - Your #1 Source for Daily MMA News, Interviews, Multimedia, and More
Heheh.. awesome article by MMAWeekly about some of these.
Dear Mainstream Media Writer Tasked with Writing about Mixed Martial Arts for the First Time,
Let me save you a little time. Your editor has probably dumped this assignment on you because you once wrote something about the XFL or skateboarding or maybe you’re the person who has to do the write-up for the annual Nathan’s hot dog eating contest and you’ve been pegged as the “spectacle guy.” In any event, you’re stuck writing about a sport about which you know virtually nothing. And let’s face it, research is hard. Professional MMA has almost 15 years of history to learn and the sport can be really complicated if you don’t know what techniques you’re watching. Do you really want to put all that effort into a dinky 700-word trend piece that every major media outlet but yours has already printed?
...

Scottish Member of Parliment Sandra White.
recent article in the Metro newspaper in scotland this morning:
"Senior polie and politicians have condemned plans to hold Scotlands major cage fighting bout,
The "sport" a hybrid of boxing, wrestling and martial arts has been described as barbaric, with concerns that parents will take their kids along to the controvercial event.
The British Medical Association has called for it to be banned. More than 4,000 fans, paying up tp #45 a ticket, are expected to pack into the Braehead arena next month to watch eight contestants punch, kick and elbow thier opponents into submission.
Promoters deny the event is violent and say it involves trained athletes. But a Croatian contender was knocked unconscious by a flying kick to the head during a recent event in Manchester.
Strathclyde Det chief Supt John Carnochan, head of the Violence reduction Unit, said; "while i do not claim to have a clear understanding of what is involved in cage fighting, i do know there is a fine line between what some people would describe as a sport and others would describe as violence."
Glasgow MSP Sandra White has called for changes to licening laws to stop such events, she said "unfortunatly we have a reputation for fighting, its bad for glasgow to bring such an event here when we are actually trying to solve the problem of violence."
Jonny Burrows, Cage Wars event producer, defended its saftey record, saying he had put on around 37 fights and the greatest injury anyone had suffered was seven stiches to the head".
