Fantasy MMA League

Ok so I am official starting Season 1 of out Fantasy MMA League. I need 10 players (so 9 not including me) to enter this fantasy league where you will pick 7 fighters. One from each weight class and two alternates that you can switch in if you please. The fee to enter this Season will be 10k. The winner at the end will get 90K so ultimately are winning 80K. Second place will get their 10K back. The scoring system will go as follows:

4 points for win over a top ten
2 points for a win over a fighter better than a can but worse than a top ten.
1 point for a win over a can
0 points for a loss
1 point for a loss to a top ten fighter

2 extra points for winning or defending a title*
1 extra point for losing a title match *

3 extra points for finishing fight in round 1
2 extra points for finishing fight in round 2
1 extra point for finishing fight in round 3
0 extra points for a decision win

*Title matches will only count for three organizations: UFC, EliteXC, and WEC. As Pride right now is in the dumps unfortunately.*

The top ten list will be the MMAWEEKLY list because it is a concensus list that incorporates all fighters from all organizations.

Once the ten players are selected I will have a little draft to see who gets the first pick and so on. So if you are chosen to pick first overall. You will pick the first heavyweight put then pick the 10th lightheavyweight. Then the first MW then 10th WW. Then the 1st LW then 10th alternate1. And finally get the pick the 1st alternate2. Get it?

Please PM me if you are in and give me a donation afterwards. Only 9 spots can be filled. After the 9 are selected I will post the fighters for each weight class that you can choose from. Be smart with your choices and the points will start to be accumilated after UFC 73. The season will finish at the start of JULY 2008. SO pick carefully (no injured fighters).

haha ya my bad guys. I wanted it to be somewhat exclusive and so that we win alot of points. Thats why the price is so steep.

Why limit it to ten players? Make it whoever has the 10K buy in and have the winner split the winnings this way:

1rst place gets 50% of the pot (that's points you smokers, I can see Rockem's eyebrows raising right now)
2nd place gets 30%
3rd place gets 20%

With the possibility to win some major points going up you should get a lot of contestants.

Couple questions...

-- can you pick a new fighter if your's gets injured or gets suspended?
-- if the alternates are for this purpose, shouldn't we all have an alternate for each weight class?
-- so under this system, wins are not only important but the number of times a fighter fights within the year, correct? (as an example, Eddie Sanchez could feasibly earn more points if he fights six times this year over Fedor who may only fight once or twice).
-- I understand that mmaweekly's rankings are used to determine the top 10s, but who determines what a "can" is?

Sorry for all of the questions, I just want to make sure that I understand everything before committing 10K for a year.

Agreed. And perhaps shorten the season to six months instead of a year. One year is a LONG time to wait for a winner.

Ok so I will make a comprimise. Tha max players will be 20. Now their will be no alternates since I think that their is not enough good fighters to choose from. If your fighter gets injured then that is your problem haha. It was just an unlucky pick. The season wil last for 6 months. Also a "can" is a person who has not fought anyone significant enough and has just entered a big promotion without a lot of experience. If we can agree on who is a can than it would be easier. Is this better?

im interested . i think we should comprise a list of fighters to choose from and rate them. some people would consider a fighter a can while others may not, cough tito cough.

Yeah I am in, I love fantasy leagues. I need to wait until after Tito/Rashad though, because I have a 10k bet on and that will pay

I think you need more points for a win over a top 10, 5 for example, other wise a rubbish fighter against an unknown fighter that finshes in round one could you 5 points. Same as a Shogan round 2 knockout of Wanderlei.

Scores have been altered slightly. So the entries can now be sent via PM. We have made it 6 months and a can willl be dtermined by the people in the league as we will have a concencus on who is can or not. 10K to enter First come First serve. Send them now only 19 spots available.

EDIT: No alternates are going to be needed just one fighter from each weight class.

I'm game, but my points are tied up in vbookie. If I win, I'll send my picks. If not, then I probably shouldn't be picking fights anyway.

looks like some good lists of fighters. how exactly are we goin to determine the draft order?

Also, if a lack of points becomes a big problem for those interested i may be willing to help out.
