Marcus Davis vs Jason Taylor
Quote:
Surging UFC welterweight contender Marcus Davis (12-3 MMA, 4-1 UFC) will put his nine-fight winning streak on the line against Paul Taylor (8-1-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) at UFC 75 on Sept. 5.
Earlier today, UFCjunkie.com (UFC blog for UFC news, MMA news, UFC rumors, UFC gossip, fighter interviews and event previews and recaps - UFCjunkie.com) spoke to Davis’s agent, Joe Cavallaro, who confirmed the bout. They’ll soon sign the paperwork to make it official.
The Davis-Taylor fight actually was first scheduled to take place at UFC 72 last month, but Taylor had to pull out of the fight with a broken thumb. Davis instead fought Jason Tan and scored a stunning first-round, 75-second knockout victory. Embraced by the Northern Ireland and European crowd, Davis will make his return overseas for UFC 75, which takes place at The 02 arena in London.
Davis, has strung together four consecutive UFC victories — and nine straight wins overall — to emerge as a contender in the UFC’s stacked 170-pound division.
The former professional boxer (who posted a stellar 17-1-2 record) has complemented his world-class boxing with a solid ground game. More than half of the victories during his current nine-fight win streak have come via submission.
Davis, though, will now take on Englishman Taylor, who’s known for his stand-up skills.
This will be Taylor’s second fight in the Octagon. He defeated Brazil’s Edilberto de Oliveira via third-round TKO at the UFC 70 event in Manchester back in April. The carpenter is a former kickboxer and one-time Cage Rage middleweight champion.

I'm kind of mad that Marcus doesn't have a better fight. He seems like the real deal and needs to be tested better. I see this ending in the second round TKO or submission.

I think this will be a great fight. Paul Taylor is far from a can. That being said, I think Davis is going to destroy him.
FYI... your title says 'Jason' Taylor, but I believe that it is suppose to be Paul.

Yeah he is. I think he is a Defensive End on the Miami Dophins.

Which of Taylor's fights are you basing your opinion on? I assume you've seen some of them by the way you're talking?
Paul's an experienced fighter, I think he has a good chance of pulling off the upset like he did against Crocota...

i just dont see davis as an upper level fighter... he beat shonie in a VERY lackluster fight, and i havent seen him beat any mid to higher end guys... sure he should get a shot at it at some point, but i just personally wouldnt be expecting a win

I saw him fight at UFC 70 and thought he looked pretty good. I thought it was one of the most exciting fights of the whole night. I think he'll do a lot better than people think.

Thats the only fight Ive seen of his too mate, but looking at his record he has some good wins over some quality UK mma fighters such as Jess Liaudin and Zelg Galesic. Looks like he's been in the game for a few years too.
