Actually BJ hurt his rib when he was transitioning to hughes back. It had nothing to do with hughes "inflicting" it on him.

Still, that cant be an excuse for loosing. he has never transitioned to someones back before? I dont mind BJ, Im not trying to challenge him at all, I just think him and Matt are 1-1. I just hate people doubting Hughes because he could have lost to BJ, or GSP will take take the 3rd one, I just want to base it off waht has happened not what could have or is going to.

Not trying to make excuses. BJ lost , Matt won. I still think unless Hughes does some drastic work on his hands and standup ..... he will get dominated by GSP again.

In my personal opinion I don't think he will. With GSP showing at UFC 65 what he can do against Hughes, and with BJ showing what he can do when in the welterweight division in the first 2 rounds at UFC 63 against Hughes, I don't think Matt Hughes could ever beat these two fighters for a start without going into the likes of Kosheck and Sanchez.
I used to like Matt Hughes, but now I dont as much as I believe he is the only top contender in the WW division in the UFC to not try and improve his game. Matt does have great wrestling, submission and gnp ability, but its not amazing now compared to the likes of the fighters mentioned earlier, and its also not good enough for the ju-jitsu and takedown defense which most fighters are gaining and improving on. Also, with BJ's cardio improving, Matt won't have the chance of waiting for BJ to gas and then beating him.
What are your views?

I don't see how you can say that. If I was matt I wouldn't change anything if it was working. Seemed to work well until he tryed to change things and then he got knocked out....... As far as dominating? I don't think so as you see how easily it is for ANYBODY to lose. If anything you should be even that more impressed with now long he kept the belt in the first place.

BC i know you arent making excuses, I am only directing this crap towards you because a couple posts back you said no ones questioning Matts ability or something. I actually agree with much that you are saying, Matt needs to either sharpen up the striking, or get GSP to the ground immeadiately.
I was simply venting about many other people writing off Matt and making other fighters excuses. I mean if you dont like matt, you dont like matt, i just get how anyone can question his past.

You need a strong back to lug around that ego.

i think matts time is over......GSP and BJ are better then him and i think karo could be him too. If it went to the ground even tho i hate him i think diego could win, and i'd love too see kos and him go at it with there wrestling skills and i think kos stand up is better. And also i think now that other fighters are seeing that hes beatable they will have a better shot bc they wont be beaten mentally.

I think the Matt Hughes of old can easily hold the title again. Not sure where he is though.

I think Hughes has it in him still unless he decides to go back to working on his farm full time which he has mentioned.I think he could easily beat Serra but I don't know if he can beat GSP again

I'll root for him until he lays down the gloves. But even if he gets by Matt "The Ticket Seller" Serra he's in some deep water.

I think Hughes could beat everyone in the top 10 of the WW division. I like the excuse of GSP wasn't mentally ready for the first fight. GSP seems to be building a history of not being mentally ready. Bodybag read my mind on the second BJ fight, glad he said it cause I didn't want to start the age old Hughes/BJ argument. If he sticks to what works for him, he can beat anyone.

So whats your opinion on why Hughes lost to GSP the second time around. You mentioned about the first fight, which by the way GSP was winning before the last 3 seconds of that round, but you haven't mentioned why you believe Matt can beat any fighter in the top ten after him losing to GSP at 65?
Was that Matt not being mentally ready.
I don't think its possible to make a huge statement like you have and then justify it by a fight from about 2-3 years ago and not mention Matt's last loss which was against a top 10 fighter

Unlike alot of people, I don't make excuses for fighter's losses. He lost the second fight hands down. GSP looked sharp and crisp against Hughes the second time. But as has been proven, just cause someone looks unbeatable one night (GSP in the second Hughes fight), they can come out and get a mud hole stomped in their ass the next (Serra/GSP).
What big statement did I make? That Hughes can beat the top 10 in the WW division? I didn't say he will. Alot of people seem to say that Hughes can't ever beat GSP or Penn again which is far fetched.
I also like how you have to qualify GSP's first loss to Hughes with GSP was winning the fight until he lost. That's great, but he did lose. I could say Fedor was losing to Hunt until he beat him, but noone would let that tarnish Fedor's win, but people want to use it against Hughes. Penn was beating him, GSP was beating him, but then they both lost. That's like saying so and so was winning until he got punched in the face and knocked out. If it makes you feel better about your fighter to say he was winning before he lost, then more power to you, but the scoreboard is the only thing that matters in the end.

Here's what's going to happen: Hughes will beat up Serra and GSP will rebeat-up Matt Hughes...then Hughes will bow out.
