News from last night's post-fight press conference
I've been reading threads and I haven't seen any of this discussed yet, so forgive me if it's already here somewhere.
Dana made the following announcements:
1. Tito and Rashad will rematch this fall, at the same Cincinnati card where Franklin will get a shot at the MW belt.
2. Sherk's next title defence will be against BJ Penn, and that'll probably be in November (which is when Marc Ratner says they'd like to be in Montreal, so maybe that's where the fight will be).
3. If CroCop beats Kongo, his next fight will be against Big Nog.
Am I forgetting anything? I think that's it.
BJ in great shape vs Sherk will be an INSANE fight. Sherk may have been able to power past Franca's guard, but BJ's ground game is an entirely different matter. I believe Sherk can take BJ down with his power and his wrestling, but he may find himself caught in something as soon as he does.

BJ gets to fight the mini Matt Hughes
I like BJ in that matchup!

YES!
That's the fight I wanted. I think Crocop will get a sweet revenge over Nog if/when that fight happens.
Sherk will have BIG problems taking BJ down.
He might succeed at it too, but there is no way he's finishing BJ imo.
I don't see him even taking a decision tbh.

This is some really great news. Can't wait for those fights to happen, everything is starting to line up really nicely.

I'm sure that Big Nog/CroCop will be for a title shot. Hopefully, the UFC can come to terms with Fedor in time to setup Fedor vs the winner of Randy/Gonzaga vs. Big Nog/CroCop.

I'm glad that BJ Penn is staying at LW. Well, he'll be the LW champion, so what else will he do? LOL. Yeah, I think Penn can beat Sherk. This is exactly what I wanted a year ago. Either Dana heard me, or BJ did; either way I get what I wanted.

Haha Tito and Rashad talking **** to each other was hilarious. They were going back and forth about the fence hold, etc.

The rematch: Damn. I was hoping this wouldn't happen. Tito needs to be put against somebody that will push the pace and there are many other people I would like to see him fight. There are lots of other LHWs I'd like to see Rashad fighting.
BJ Penn/Sherk: I have to admit I'm disappointed that BJ's next fight could potentially be disappointing. If he loses this he will go out tired and worn out and it might be mostly because of his cardio. He's a submission fighter mostly and he's fighting somebody that has never been submitted. It's going to take a prodigy to tap Sherk and that's the main appeal of this match- what if BJ Penn submits Sherk? It's what I'll be hoping for.
Cro Cop vs Nog: .... Meh.

I think BJ is the only one who can take Sherk out and he is gonna have to train his ass off to do so. Should make for an exciting fight though, I don't think Sherk will be able to smother BJ for 5 rounds without getting caught in a sub.

Sorry, but I thought I'd share this story since it's UFC news related. (very sad)............................
Man Killed in Arco Arena Fall
Written by Jason Kobely, Internet News Producer
E-mail Story Print Story
Investigators are looking into the death of a Merced man who fell 30 feet to his death from the second level at Arco Arena Saturday night, Sacramento County Sheriff's officials said.
Sacramento County Sheriff's spokesman R.L. Davis said Eraldo Cano, 26, was seated in section 112 at Arco for Saturday night's Ultimate Fighting Championship event around 8:30 p.m. when he fell from the second level to a concrete concourse on the ground level.
Cano was transported by ambulance to the UC Davis Medical Center where he died from his injuries around 10 p.m.
Davis said the fall appeared to be accidental and Cano was not pushed. Authorities were looking into whether alcohol played a role in the fall.
Cano was one of 14,317 spectators at Arco Saturday for the UFC 73 Stacked event, featuring a collection of fighters from various martial arts disciplines going head to head.

I've always wondered why more stuff like this doesn't happen at sporting events. When you mix idiots and alcohol, you would think something like that would happen more often.

I would lay alot of money on the BJ during the betting process. Sherk seems like a great fighter but if someone is of even slightly higher skill level he can't finish them. He can control the entire fight beginning to end but never finish them. During 5 rounds if BJ gets in shape I could easily see a submission.

Dana, I think that Hermes knees are more powerful than BJ's punches, but that's just me. Sherk has a jaw of steal.

Sweet BJ vs Sherk will be great......I think Sherk could take BJ down but it will be a big pain in the butt to do, And if it does go to the ground I don't see BJ letting sherk pass gaurds so easy like he did on Franca BJs ground game is so crazy over the other guys its scary......Like Joe said at the Pulver fight his feet are like hands too plus he can pull subs and sweeps so fast sherk will have some problems for sure on the ground and on the feet.
GL-BJ I'd like to see him with the title......And if he stays in shape he can go up to WW and get that title and then he can go up to MW and take Silvas too LoL

I am cheering for BJ but I hope he will be working on his cardio in this fight with Sherk cause it will be a fast pace fight.
WAR BJ.

These all sound like amazing fights.
After watching Sherk at UFC 73, which gained him so much new respect from me, I think BJ could be the only LW that i know of to beat Sherk, yes Sherk will take him down, but BJ will be dominant on the ground. The stand up battle will be pretty close though I reckon.
Cro-Cop and Nog will be very good, and i was expecting that fight if Cro-Cop wins this.
Tito vs. Rashad im also loving. Many people have argued that it wasn't a great fight, but I believe it was, and I think Tito vs. Rashad II would be even better because Rashad would have more confidence to end the fight and Tito would have more urgency to finish the fight.
