Default Faber at UFC 73

Anyone else wonder why they made a point of showing Faber last night? The average "fan" probably has no idea who he is. I just wondered if it was maybe way to begin to get him in the heads of the average fan before bringing him to the UFC.

You just answered you own question, the average fan doesn't know who he is, but he's the top 145 out there. The ufc owns the wec, so why wouldn't they want to promote each other?

I still think Razor Rob McCullough wouldve been a better and more exciting signing than Urijah Faber.

I dont buy into him.

Unless Urijah Faber gets a lot bigger, you won't see him fighting at 155.

Cool

As others noted, the WEC is owned by the UFC. Faber is the WEC 145 pound champion. He won't go UFC unless he loses that belt (and yeah, he needs to be bigger to go at 155). The UFC wants to promote the 145'ers in the WEC. Faber is fun to watch, IMO.

Yeah I think it was just the UFC promoting WEC and also promoting Faber as they also must believe he is the new and next big thing in the world of MMA. I think its good that they gave him and WEC the time on a card which could of easily just been all about the UFC.

LoL you ask why they show him and not why they show Sakurai

If people are not going to know someone it would be Sakurai

Everyone was probably like who is that asian dude.....

On a said note what will Sakurai be fighting at in the UFC LW WW ??

I know that has nothing to do with this topic but its not worth its own

Remember that after his loss to BJ Penn, Jens Pulver announced he was going down a weightclass to fight in the WEC, which means he's going after Faber.

Faber will destroy Jens.

Doubtful we'd see Faber going up to lightweight. He probably doesn't have to cut a whole lot of weight normally. Sherk walks around at 180 lbs. That's a HUGE friggin' size, weight and strength difference.

I'd like to see UFC bring in the Featherweight division. I just started watching WEC over the past few months, and it's always dynamic and action packed to watch the Featherweights. After seeing around 5 Faber fights, he's quickly becoming one of my favorite MMA fighters. When I first got into MMA, I had no idea how much I'd dig watching the lighter weightclasses. heh.
