Penn vs Sherk in November (Spoiler)
Penn will be fighting Sherk in November according to the Beatdown. Mods, please add Sherk to the title when it's been 24 hours since UFC 73, thanks =)
I'll post my prediction at a later date... this will be a great fight though!

Yeah, Sherk said on Fight Network that he knew, as soon as he heard that BJ was dropping to 155, that he was gonna be next in line.
And he's apparently gonna go back to training and start hammering a gameplan even though it's 5 months out.
Good for you, Sean.
But you're going down!!!

Looks like we are going to have a contradiction Gooner. Penn will not beat Sherk. It is impossible. Only someone like Joe Stevenson is going to be able to beat Sherk. You think Penn can control Sherk's arm? No. Do you think you can choke Sherk out? He has no neck. Can't wait man!

Hmmm...
I think Diaz-Sherk was a very close fight, and that Nick might beat Sherk today.
And Nick's wrestling/TD defense is not on BJ's level.
Penn will beat Mini-Hughes just like he will beat Regular-Hughes.
Trust.

For Sherk to win this fight I think he has to weather the storm for the first two rounds and then hope Penn gasses enough for him to grind out a 5 round decision.

I like both fighters a lot. Penn can win a bunch of different ways, but Sherk to me can only really win a decision.

I think penn will win, i dont see sherk finishing him anywhere.
Of course, Penn could lose to mini-hughes, just like he lost to regular-hughes.
But i doubt it heh.

BJ by total domination on feet and if does go to ground domination there. Believe me folks, Sherk ain't as powerful as Hughes and Bj controlled him.

Hughes may be more powerful, but not by much I don't think. What makes me think Sherk could win this fight is that he doesn't give his opponent any breathing space, and I could see how this could get to Penn by the championship rounds, even if Penn comes in shape.
It's still months away, but as of now I think that if Penn is to win, it will be in rounds 1 or 2 (3 if he comes in great shape), but into the championship rounds, Sherk's constant pressure will help him to a close decision.
So... the two most likely outcomes I believe are Penn by stoppage in rounds 1 or 2, or Sherk by decision.

I think that the Hermes fight was an opener for Sherk to work on GnP. That being said I say Sherk by tko in round 4 or 5. Sherk will smother BJ. He is a better wrestler than Hughes and has improved so much since that fight. Plus he is bigger to bj than he was to hughes.

I think BJ has to really work on his Cardio when he fights Sherk cause Sherk is very active from opening round till the end.....IF BJ can handle Sherk's storm and don't gas out then I don't see Sherk beating BJ.
Herma gave BJ an idea of how to fight Sherk and that is with Knees when he shoots in. WAR BJ!!!

Oh,that would be pretty unlucky.
Separating a rib against Mini-Hughes too?
I have my doubts about that happening.

Yep that would just be a horrid coincidence
Sherk wont cause BJ any problems and i will bet every point and a nice amount of cash on it also
If Randy struggles to take BJ down I cant see Sherk taking (also a fitter looking version) BJ down.

Sherk impressed me, he is a nightmare, having that guy ontop of you working non stop...wow. Plus the way he shook off those knees. But BJ won't have a problem with him IMO. Takedown defence and acurate striking, plus BJ on the ground is just as bad a senario. He seems a bit predictable, granded during the hermes fight that was a good thing, but against BJ not so much. BJ isn't your typical 155'er, and like Sherks showing against bigger guys (GSP and Hughes) he will be in trouble. Plus not being a finisher and letting a guy like BJ have that much time even if gassed is asking for trouble.

speaking of coincidence, i wonder if this mri would take 4 weeks, too, assuming, of course, that the rib wasnt separated in the 3-4 weeks between he fight and the mri and actually occurred during the fight

Yeah yeah, duke.
BJ is lying and Franklin doesn't deserve the title shot.
It's nice to see how your likes and dislikes don't have any effect on your opinions again...
As someone pointed out in the thread (which I can't find for some reason) getting results from an MRI can take a long time. I don't know how it is over there exactly.
BJ says that's why he went for an immediate finish (sub) when he got injured (taking Hughes' back). He didn't start beating him up and sending him back in the corner bloody like he did with Pulver, because he knew he was injured.
And when he came out for the 3rd round, he didn't look gassed to me. He could barely move. Even with poor cardio, how the hell is he gonna be in that bad a shape especially when he was in a dominant position for a long time before the break?
But let's do this again some time, duke.
Or maybe we could state our opinions about this in our sigs?
I'll write down "BJ got injured in the 2nd round against Hughes"
and you can put
"BJ gassed, and is lying. He either forged a medical report or separated a rib after the fight to back up his big lie".

BJ will win so long as he keeps his cardio up.
BJ by better striking, better grappling, and excellent takedown defense.

I think BJ will have a much harder time with Sherk than he had with Hughes thanks to Sherk being much more well rounded than Matt. Hughes has terrible hands and is way too one-dimentional where as Sean can at least throw some hard shots and uses them to change positions very well, add to the fact that his arms are so short and neck so thick he's going to be hard to submit, and if the knee he took in round 2 says anything, he's going to be even harder to KO.

Why does Penn get a title shot? This is ridiculous he beats Pulver and suddenly he is a top contender? The way they hand out tile shots is getting annoying. Penn should have to work his way up like every other fighter in the division.
