Default Pushing vs Running

Which is better? Pushing my 2002 Ford Explorer for 1 mile at a very slow jog or running for 4 miles at a 9 min/mile pace?

You're talking about taxing very different systems. There's a whole level of strength training involved in pushing your truck, where as running for nearly 40 minutes will improve your anaerobic conditioning. I'd recommend trying both on different days.

i don't believe running is an anerobic activity. during a run your body is in an aerobic state. sprinting on the other hand would fall into the anerobic realm as would pushing a truck. running at a not so hard pace would be good on the days you don't push the truck, sort of an active recovery. you'll be working your lungs but not subjecting your muscles to resistance, at least not at the level of pushing your Explorer. i would say that pushing the truck is better for most sports unless you're a runner.

Right -- just a typo on the aerobic / anaerobic thing. I meant one thing and said the other.
