Default UFC 75 to Air via Tape Delay on Spike TV

Quote:
The upcoming “UFC 75: Champion vs. Champion” event, which takes place Sept. 8 at The 02 Arena in London, England, will air on Spike TV, according to a press release that the cable channel issued this afternoon.

The televised portion of the event will air on tape delay beginning at 9 p.m. ET.

Spike TV, which traditionally hosts UFC Fight Nights and The Ultimate Fighter Finales, will have its most notable UFC main event in the channel’s history. The UFC 75 headline fight between UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton Jackson (27-6 MMA, 2-0 UFC) and PRIDE welterweight (183-pound) and middleweight (205-pound) champion Dan Henderson (22-5 MMA, 2-0 UFC) will unify the two organizations’ 205-pound belts.

Essentially, it’s the most prolific and meaningful fight to ever air on Spike.

“Spike TV is thrilled to present such a monumental bout between these two great champions,” said Kevin Kay, general manager of Spike TV. “Not only will this be the first ever unification bout, but it is Spike TV’s first ever UFC title fight.“

The event — the third to take place outside the U.S. this year — will also feature Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic vs. Cheick Kongo, and The Ultimate Fighter 3 light heavyweight winner Michael Bisping vs. his former castmate (and fan favorite) Matt Hamill.

This will be the second major UFC event that Spike TV has broadcast this year. Back in April, the station aired UFC 70 — also on tape delay. The event took place at M.E.N. Arena in Manchester, England and averaged 2.8 million viewers (and 3.5 million for the main event between Filipovic and Gabriel Gonzaga).

I don't have to pay to watch UFC PPV events, but I think this is good news for everybody else. Only thing is it'll have a heck of a lot more commercials than normal, and we probably won't be able to see the fighters in their corners in between rounds. Oh well, free is good.

I hope they don't end up deciding against it, like they did with 72.

This is good and bad. Good because I don't have to pay 40 bucks for it. Bad because of commercials.

What time (US) does the event actually start?

Dana is crazy. You have Rampage vs Hollywood in a unification title fight. Surely there is money there?

less chance at seeing undercard fights with all those comercials, plus it'll be mega boring and the ufc will lose out on all kinds of money, that's so crazy, I totally don't get this :S

I'm kinda confused too. This is a chance for Dana to make some serious cash. Oh well, saves me some cash.

Free is always good for me......the commercials do suck but if you have tvo or dvr. I just usually record atleast an hour that way i'm behind the commercials and can just fast forward past them.

Well, either way I'm going to the pub to watch it becuase the crowd that watches fights around me is pretty good. Less looking for blood, more people that train and enjoy mma. I'm just glad we get to watch some hopefully good fights, but that many commercials just gets reallllllllllly frustrating for me

Can you buy it if you want so that you don't have tape delay?

Outstanding!! I don't mind a few commercials. I will DVR it, start watching an hour late and FF thru all the garbage.

I think it's a good idea, as long as they dont have commercial interruption during the main event.

I'd also be curious to know if purse money is different for the champ/challenger compared to if it were PPV event?

I might still buy it live but just because I always ruin it for myself with spoilers if I don't watch an event live.

The commercials will likely be annoying but it's a good trade-off.

I just can't not watch it live cuz at UFC 70 I tried not to check the spoilers, but it was just way to hard and I went to the live play-by-play so that basically ruined it for me. I think I will just watch it live.
