Default Swick Vs. Goulet At UFC Fight Night 11

Quote:
Following his loss to Yushin Okami at UFC 69 in Houston, Texas, Mike Swick decided to make the move from the middleweight division down to the welterweight division. Rumors have been swirling about a rematch with Chris Leben, but the situation took a bizarre turn when Jonathan Goulet started a thread in the MMAWeekly SoundOff Forum yesterday titled, "Wanna Fight."

In the thread Jonathan stated, "Wanted to fight Mike Swick to replace Leben at 170 for the UFC Fight Night in September, but he refused. Is he scared to go to sleep against me? I will beat his ass..."

When contacted by MMAWeekly, Swick responded, "I'm surprised to hear Goulet make a comment like that about me. It's completely disrespectful to come on here and blantley lie about something I never said. I have always had a lot of respect for his whole team, and it's so sad he is so desperate for a UFC fight that he has to make me look bad to get it. For the record, I never turned down Goulet. You talked to Joe Silva and know who I was asking for... Sometimes you get what you wish for, so..."

Sources close to the situation have informed MMAWeekly that the match is being put together and that both fighters have agreed to the fight.

I am not really very thrilled about this fight; I think Leben would have been a better opponent. I actually was impressed w/ Goulet until he got dismantled by Kos; I really thought that was gonna be a good fight.

no disrespect to Goulet, but: Are you kidding me?
Please, please let this be just a rumor.

If I call out Chuck Liddell will the UFC set that one up too?

No disrespect to Goulet, but this is in no way a compelling matchup for the fans. Goulet has obvious talent, but it's a bit of a re-tred for the UFC to bring him back simply because he's making noise and issuing challenges. They should wait until they do another 'comeback' version of TUF.

Swick is a really good athlete who is well rounded; I think he could be a serious title contender at this weight. He matches up well w/ anyone on his feet and good enough on the ground to hold his own. I can see him sorta like Chuck is in the LHW against fighters like Diego or Kos by using excellent takedown defense and forcing those guys to fight him on their feet. If he can do that he will work his way into title contention. The one fighter at that weight that could give him hell would be GSP imo which he may not even face until he is fighting for a title a good ways down the road anyway.

I was really hoping for Swick to fight a better opponent. Oh well this will be his first fight at WW so I guess you got to start somewhere.

I'll take Goulet by second round TKO, he is no slouch. If you guys doubt me watch some of his fights in TKO, he is an impressive fighter imo.

How can you say he isn't a respectable fighter? Is it because of what you read on mma weekly or is it because of fight you saw of him and bang? The guy has KO power himself, sure he gets caught every now and then, but who doesn't anymore. I'd rather see him fight swick or anybody other then "9 lives" Leben any day.

I hope this is just a rumor Swick would destroy Goulet. I can't belive Goulet, with his losses, would headline an ultimate fight night. Swick would be a huge favorite, but at this day in age you never know when an upset can come.

You guys are delusional. Look at Goulet's record outside of the UFC, he has some impressive wins over guys like Shonie Carter and Jeff Joslin. You need to look outside the box, UFC records are not the only ones that matter.
