The Complete Idiot's Guide To Ultimate Fighting
Quote:
We’ll soon have some medicine for bone-headed MMA fans.
Former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin and novelist Jon F. Merz have teamed up for a new MMA-related title about the sport, and more specifically, the UFC’s brand of “cage fighting.” And it’s appropriately called The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Ultimate Fighting.
The book, which is one of the latest titles in the popular “Complete Idiots Guide” series, is set for a Sept. 4 release and will be available at bookstores everywhere. (Some online retailers currently have the book available for pre-order.)
UFCjunkie.com hasn’t received a review copy (we’re working on it), but we did learn a little about its contents. The book will discuss the usual, including the history of the sport, rules of engagement, and how a fight is scored. However, the book focuses more on actually competing and not so much on the UFC’s 14-year history. Dieting is discussed, and the book includes tips on fighting, including stand-up and ground techniques, as well as work for the clinch.
The book, which received an official stamp of approval from the UFC, will include more than 300 photographs.
The 304-page softcover retails for $19.95.
While Franklin needs little in the way of introduction, but book buyers should take comfort in knowing the co-author also knows martial arts. Merz, author of The Ninja Handbook, has written six novels and is a martial artist and ninjutsu practitioner. He holds a fifth degree master instructor license from the 34th grandmaster of Togakure-ryu Ninjutsu in Japan, according to his official bio for the book.
While many books have been written about martial arts, few have been written on the sport of MMA. However, this newest title will likely become the first of many looking to capitalize on MMA’s recent surge of popularity.
(Personally recommended reads include: Little Evil: One Ultimate Fighter’s Rise to the Top (by Jens Pulver), Inside the Lions Den (about Ken Shamrock’s camp), and Mixed Martial Arts: The Book of Knowledge (by B.J. Penn).)

Just shows how smart Rich really is. Although he shouldn't have time for writing a book while his hands are full preparing for A. Silva.

I wish it was "A Complete Idiot's Guide to MMA".
But, I guess we can't complain.

Since Rich is one of the authors, and the one with the inside knowledge at that, doesn't that make it his guide to ultimate fighting? So......if it's "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Ultimate Fighting".....

How ironic, a book written by Rich Franklin and discussing "work for the clinch"!!

There's a great section on fighting on one knee! Apparently they can't kick or knee you in the head so how could you possibly lose?

This should be treated like TUF. When the book is released, Franklin and Mertz headline a Fight Night. No ninja weapons allowed.
Thanks for the news TICL.
