Default Liddell-Jardine, Shogun-Griffin confirmed at 76

i have searched many times and cant find a thread on this, but i wont be surprised if there is one already.

UFC® : Ultimate Fighting Championship®

UFC 76: Knockout headlines Chuck Liddell Vs. Keith Jardine and also has UFC debut of Muaricio "Shogun" Rua Vs. Forrest Griffin.

nice article in the LA Times about Liddells return to the octagon in September.

Other fighters rumored to be on the card are Tyson Griffin Vs. Thiago Tavares and Justin McNully vs. an unnamed opponent.

This looks to be a great card because any card with Chuck is a great card, with the addition of Shogun, its another great card produced by the UFC.

Well i did posted that both fights were confirmed:
UFC Events Dates

But my thread's main topic was about how they pick the events dates.. So fair enough man..

Yeah, I believe that card is gonna be really cool.. and it's not final yet!!

yea i thought i read about these fights somewhere and i searched and couldnt find anything on the card or the article from the LA times. But anyway looks to be a great card and we only have two fights confirmed. hopefully the rest of the card is good because there is no title fight.

i also dont know why the link says sign up but it takes you directly to the article ....

Shogun versus Griffin? The UFC must really hate Griffin, LOL. I just cannot see Forrest Griffin defeating Shogun Rua. I guess anything could happen, and lately it usually does, but Griffin just does not seem to be on the same level as Shogun right now.

Liddell versus Jardine should be an interesting fight. But, I would not be surprised to see Liddell KO Jardine.

I think it's the opposite. I think they really like Griffin and have high hopes for him. He's a marketable fighter who is personable and who fans like and he's exciting. He always pushes the fight and he's certainly not afraid to get in there and brawl if need be. Training with Randy should really help him. Remember, Griffin was slated to be Machida's first UFC fight before the staph infection. Matches like these are win-win for the UFC. If Shogun or Machida beat Griffin, that gets them credibility among the casual fans. If Griffin wins, that vaults him up into a position where he could legitimately be in a position to get a title shot.

I don't know if Griffin can beat Shogun. I certainly wouldn't put any money on it, that's for sure. But, depending on the odds, I might throw a few FF points on Forrest. With Randy helping him prep and Griffin's work ethic, I think he can make it a fight. Griffin knows that this is a HUGE shot for him and evidently he asked Dana for the fight and he'll be motivated as hell for it. Shogun is probably the top LHW in the world right now and is without a doubt top 3. You don't get a chance to fight a guy like that very often.

I'll certainly be pulling for Forrest big time! Shogun will be fine regardless. He's a helluva fighter and he'd bounce back quickly from a loss against Forrest. After whupping up on a few guys, he'd be right back in title contention 3-4 fights later. On the other hand, this is a chance for Forrest to vault himself from gate keeper status into the title picture.

How is that a fantasy fight? It just seems like Chuck is on a whole other level. Just me though. KO round 1.

I just don't see how Griffin can hang with Shogun. Lucky punch is about the only chance I can see. Griffin got KTFO by Jardine, and couldn't even beat Tito, and Tito just ain't what he used to be. But who knows. Lucky punch is all I could see on his side.

With Liddell/Jardine it all depends on if Chuck has his house in order. He should after being disgraced by Jackson. It was a completely different Liddell in there against Jackson, tentative, he almost looked spooked. Maybe the beating Rampage gave him in Pride was still on his mind. It would have been on mine. Before the Jackson fight I would have had Liddell at 5-1 odds to win against Keith. Now I just don't know.

Yeah, I certainly don't consider Chuck/Jardine a fantasy fight. Chuck/Wandy, Chuck/Shogun - now those are fantasy fights. At this point in his career, Chuck/Jardine seems kind of, well... bland.

Jardine has a chance, but I think it's a small one. His best bet is to try to stay out of strking range, resist the urge to exchange with Chuck (that leads to getting KTFO) and use his vicious leg kicks to wear Chuck down. Rampage showed that if you force Chuck to be the aggressor, he can become frustrated and make a mistake trying to force the action and force the exchanges where he can catch you with a counter.

Nah, I don't really think Rampage was in his head. I mean, Randy gave him a pretty good beating too and he came back to beat Randy twice after that. I think it's just like I said, Rampage was willing to be patient and force Chuck to be the aggressor. That made Chuck impatient and forced him out of his element and that's how he was able to force Chuck into a mistake and catch him. Rampage simply has the style, the patience, and the coaching to beat Chuck. I'd love to see them meet a 3rd time to see if Chuck could solve him, but I don't know if it'll ever happen.

As far as Forrest/Jardine. Forrest got caught with a big shot in an exchange. It can happen to the best fighters (just like it happened to Chuck and lots of other guys) and when you catch a big shot like that on the button, that's it - lights out. Up until that shot, I had Forrest winning the round. In Forrest/Tito, I thought Forrest showed a great survival mode in the first round, then he clearly won the 2cd, and the fight was really up for grabs until Tito secured a late takedown in the 3rd. I think Forrest wins that fight if it was a 5 rounder. Those were 2 tough losses for Forrest, but losses to Jardine and Tito are definitely not shameful, both are good fighters - neither anywhere near the level of Shogun, but good, tough fighters none the less.

I'm anxious to see how Forrest does and how he steps up to this challenge.

I would be much more excited about this card if instead of Chuck vs Jardine and Rua vs Griffin it was Chuck vs Rua and Jardine vs Griffin 2. Then we would get to see a great fight that alot of people have been wanting to see for a while and Jardine vs Griffin two would atleast be competitive.

Oh well, there should atleast be some good highlight reel KOs, then again I thought that going into UFC 67.

This could be true but the UFC usually wants their popular fighters from other organizations to win their fights in their debut. Cro Cop, Silva, and Rampage were all big names and they tried to give them interesting fights but the UFC definitly wanted them to win to put them into title contention. Unfortunatly that didnt work out too well with Crop Cop.

That would be cool to see Forrest-Jardine II. I would say it would be a decision because Forrest would probably be a little more aware of Jardines knockout power. Chuck and Shogun would be a great fight but i would want to see that only if they couldnt get the Wandy fight done. Hopefully they do...

Why do poeple keep saying Cro Cop lost his debut fight ?

Maybe because people (not me) consider Sanchez a gimme fight and that Gonzaga was his first real challenge.

The Jardine-Liddell fight is a disappointing match-up because he simply took the easy way out. I feel sorry for Forrest having to fight Shogun, especially when he got Ko'ed by Jardine and then had a lackluster victory again the "sick-god".

still pumped to see shogun in the UFC.

I know Cro Cop didnt lose his debut but the UFC wanted to give him a title shot and expected him to win against Gonzaga. That didnt work out well.

No disrespect towards any fighter of any organization. I speak / write only what my mind thinks due to common sense and nearly 15 years of watching UFC since 1993, along with Pride and any MMA fights I could watch in person or by video. Plus, my personal training experiances. Am I a baddass, pro? NO!! I gladly admit these skilled athletes are far more superior than I!!!

Having said that lets move on, lol.
I love MMA! Whether it be Pride, UFC, etc...! Forrest vs Shogun, OMG Forrest has but .000001% of any chance at beating Shogun.
Liddell, what can I say, Dana, Liddells former handler/manager whatever are GREAT friends, therefore, Liddell picks the fights he wants. Bottom line, in my opinion, if a former Pride fighter holds the LHW belt Chuck will NEVER get it back!!!
