http://15rounds.com/boxing/News/2007...her-072807.php

This has just been reported in the last few minutes! The boxing forum that I post on has crashed!! Its going mental!
I wish Ricky would have given us De la Hoya and Cotto first. To test the water at Welterweight. Instead he facing the best. God, I never thought id see the day i would moan at Hatton v Mayweather!! I just dont think Ricky will win this. Floyd will run and jab out a decision!

WAR Ricky!!

I agree that Floyd will run and Jab out a decision.....but I hope Ricky can get close enough to at least close the distance and maybe land a lucky punch. I also hope Ricky will use his jab to set up his punches cause I know he doesn't really uses his jab. But if DLH used his jab more in his fight with PBF, then maybe he could have won.

WAR Ricky

I feel he can win but as you stated, PBF will probably run and jab in an attempt eek out a decision. I bet Hatton pulls it out someway somehow just based on his stye anyway though.

Sh1t my pants i reckon mate!
Nah, One of my mates is out in L.A living the dream! So, i'll just use it as an excuse to see him! I reckon though, if you are gonna see a fight, well then thats the one!
I watched the De La Hoya v Mayweather fight again last night, and i am convinced if De La hoya had kept up with the smother tactics for more than 15 second spurts at a time, he'd have walked it! He gassed after round 7 though! I dont think that sort of gassing will happen with Ricky! Of all the fighters out there, barring Mosely and maybe Cotto, I think Ricky has the best chance of beating Mayweather!
Mayweather deserves to be a bigger star. He is an athlete of Tiger Woods proportions, he IS that good. Its a pity he is such an @sshole! That is what holds him back!

Looks like its signed mike
MMANEWS.COM | Mayweather And Hatton Sign For Super-Fight
The following is from the Sports Ticker:

Mayweather and Hatton sign for super-fight

August 1, 2007
By Mark Staniforth PA SportsTicker Boxing Writer

MANCHESTER, England (Ticker) - Contracts have been signed for Floyd Mayweather Jr's December 8 super-fight against Britain's Ricky Hatton.

The news was revealed Wednesday by Hatton's father Ray.

Hatton will receive a career-best purse for the bout, which is expected to be officially announced by promoters Golden Boy Promotions imminently.

Ray Hatton told PA SportsTicker: "The contract provided what we wanted and we are officially signed up. Now we are just waiting for the date and venue to be made official.

"Our lawyers have instructed us that the Mayweather camp have also signed at their end. We are delighted with the deal. Ricky's purse is higher than anything he has previous earned."

The MGM Grand in Las Vegas is favorite to host the contest.

Hatton could expect a travelling support in excess of the 10,000 who saw him beat Jose Luis Castillo in the city in June.

Mayweather came out of a short-lived retirement to take the fight, and has already begun the hype.

He said: "I don't know who is the pound-for-pound No. 2 in the world, but there is no fighter in the world like me.

"Hatton is in for a rude awakening when we meet and he is in for a shock if he thinks I'm like any fighter he has ever faced. I'm in the business of blood, sweat and tears."

After narrowly beating Luis Collazo in his first fight at welterweight early last year, Hatton said he would not fight at the limit again unless Mayweather came calling.

As soon as the unbeaten Manchester man succeeded in needling the self-styled 'Pretty Boy' into fighting him, that weight limit was never going to pose a threat to the contest.

It is the fight Hatton has dreamed about ever since he established himself as the world No. 1 one at 140 pounds with victory over Kostya Tszyu in Manchester, England, two years ago.

Mayweather, who won his first world title in the super-featherweight division, is not such as natural welterweight as Collazo. And this time Hatton will have much more time to prepare.

Hatton's trainer, Billy Graham, told Sky Sports News: "We've got more warning about moving up to welterweight than last time. Last time against Collazo it was a really quick decision. Then, Ricky carbed up a bit and didn't take the advice of his nutritionist.

"We've learned a massive lesson in that fight. We'll do it different this time and be much better. I've said for a long time I think Ricky is the best fighter, pound for pound, to ever come out of Great Britain. When he beats Mayweather, everyone will agree with me."

Typical Mayweather

MMANEWS.COM | Mayweather Starts The War Of Words Against Hatton
The following is from the Sports Ticker:
Mayweather starts the war of words against Hatton
August 1, 2007
By Mark Staniforth PA SportsTicker Boxing Writer

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) - Floyd Mayweather, Jr. has told Brit roughhouse Ricky Hatton that he will be knocked out in their superfight, scheduled for Las Vegas on December 8.

Contracts for the eagerly awaited 147-pound championship were signed Wednesday.

Mayweather immediately came out punching.

"He's definitely getting knocked out," he said.

The five-weight world champion didn't stop there.

"I am the best fighter in boxing today, and I'm prepared for any challenge my team puts in front of me," he said. "And with Ricky Hatton, it's already personal.

"He has talked and disrespected me so much in the past months that I can't wait to get him in the ring and show him he is not even on my level."

Hatton is relishing the opportunity to prove himself the best fighter on the planet and is set to earn a career-best purse of up to $16 million for the bout, which will be promoted by Oscar de la Hoya's "Golden Boy Promotions".

"I am extremely excited to announce Golden Boy's involvement in another boxing extravaganza such as Mayweather vs. Hatton," de la Hoya said. "We are proud to continue to provide fans with the best matchups and fights in boxing today. This will be an exciting way to end this record-breaking year for the sport."

The unbeaten British "Hitman" said it was his lifetime dream to climb to the top of the pound-for-pound rankings, a position currently held by Mayweather.

"To win the world title is one thing, but to be known as the best pound-for-pound fighter on the planet in any weight division would be something else and I just can't wait," Hatton said.

Hatton (43-0) gave Mayweather his due to Sky Sports.

"I am fighting a five-weight world champion and the best fighter in the world," he said. "He's just come off a win over another modern-day legend in de la Hoya. It can't get any bigger than that."

Mayweather (38-0) has been needled out of retirement to take the fight. The brash Grand Rapids man said he would walk away from the sport after his win over de la Hoya.

However Hatton's magnificent win over Jose Luis Castillo in June clearly caught the attention of the self-styled "Pretty Boy" - as did Hatton's subsequent comments about what he perceives to be Mayweather's negative style.

"Before my last performance against Castillo, I'm sure a lot of people thought I'd lost my chance at fighting him, but with the performance I put in last time he could see what a big fight it is," Hatton said.

Hatton will move up to 147 pounds for only the second time in his career to face Mayweather.

Despite struggling when he stepped up in weight to outpoint Luis Castillo in Boston early last year, Hatton believes he will be much better prepared to carry the extra poundage against Mayweather.

"I ended up getting in the ring too heavy on the night and it slowed me down," Hatton said. "But you learn by your mistakes and I'll be better prepared next time. I'll be better, stronger and faster."

Hatton will go into the ring as a big underdog against Mayweather. But the last time he entered the ring as an unfancied fighter, he shocked Kostya Tszyu to claim the IBF light-welterweight title belt two years ago.

"Mayweather's like greased lightning. He's very hard to nail and he's got a great defence and looks after himself well," Hatton said. "I have a lot of admiration for his talent and he really is a fighter to admire.

"But his workrate isn't that great. He spends long periods of time on the ropes covering up and that is the last thing you want to do against me. The two fights he came closest to losing were his first fight against Castillo and his last fight against de la Hoya when they put a bit of pressure on. I'd like to think I'm 'Mr Pressure' so anybody who says this fight is beyond me don't know what they're looking at. This is a fight where I am the underdog but I am still very, very capable of winning."

Earlier, Hatton's father, Ray, confirmed to PA SportsTicker that contracts had been signed by both sides.

"The contract provided what we wanted and we are officially signed up," he said. "Our lawyers have instructed us that the Mayweather camp have also signed at their end. We are delighted with the deal. Ricky's purse is higher than anything he has previous earned."

Leonard Ellerbe of Mayweather Promotions told PA SportsTicker: "The fight will be at a venue in Las Vegas." The MGM Grand is favorite to host the contest.

"We are very happy that the first fight for Mayweather Promotions will be an event of this magnitude. To be in partnership with "Golden Boy Promotions" working on another big event is a great way to show we are serious in bringing great fights to the fans."

Mark Taffet of HBO PPV also chimed in.

"Mayweather-Hatton is a world-class showdown between two undefeated superstars in their prime," Taffet said. "It's the biggest welterweight fight since de la Hoya-Trinidad, and figures to be a memorable night for boxing fans."

Mayweather has already begun his trademark trash-talking about Hatton.

"I don't know who is the pound-for-pound No. 2 in the world, but there is no fighter in the world like me," Mayweather said. "Hatton is in for a rude awakening when we meet and he is in for a shock if he thinks I'm like any fighter he has ever faced. I'm in the business of blood, sweat and tears."

Ricky has good stamina, much more than DLH... I can see Hatton just walking through PBF's jabs, then landing one over the jab. Hatton also has a strong core and shouldn't worry about PBF landing anything of consequence on the body.

PBF of course is fast and will do what he usually does... dance around and out-point his opponent.

My heart is with The Hitman, but my money is on PBF.

Ricky is going to just mash this clown up, Mayweather can prance around as much as he wants but Ricky's going to smack his pretty little face all over the place. Come on Ricky.

Easier said than done my friend. I know alot of people who thought DLH would do the same and look what happened. I'll assume you don't like PBF, just as I do, but I cannot deny the man's defensive talents.

I am not so sure about smashing his face but I can see him pulling this fight out. All he has to do is press the action and land some punches here and there; the trick is to appeal to the judges and all PBF is going to do is try not to get hit. I think not being agressive in this fight could hurt him while being agressive enough to win could get him hurt by Ricky.

Maybe my last post was a little over the top but i just love it when English fighters do well, Hatton lives about 30 minutes from my me and you have to support your own no matter what, but as it is i think Ricky will win by knockout anyway, he plays too rough for someone like pretty boy floyd.
