Does soccer piss anyone else off?
I used to be a big fan, i even had a season ticket at United for a good number of years. Looking back, I dont know why I liked it.
I firmly believe it is sky's hype that makes people believe they love it! They make every game seem like WW3 with highlight reels and stuff! When you actually watch a game, about 5 mins of action actually takes place! It is so boring when you compare it to Rugby, hurling, gaelic football, and NFL! Only in soccer can a coach say "a scoreless draw was a good result!"
What pisses me off the most is the amount of attention that is heaped on it! Take this weekend! Sky sports news was FULL of footage of meaningless pre-season friendlies! Vazquez and Marquez took part in one of the greatest wars i have seen in recent years! Erik Morales, a warrior and a true great announces his retirement also happened this weekend! I turn on sky sports to see that this news was given the scrolling text treatment! But no, lets check out how Man United's C team got on against Chesterfield for the next 30 mins!
I suppose this is my frustration with todays society and media really. I just cant see how Boxers and MMA fighters, who train harder than any other athlete, put their bodies through more, risk their lives and are involved in sports that even at their worst provide more drama and action than an entire season of soccer, get looked over while a bunch of over-paid, diving girls get all the coverage! The only fighters who get main-stream coverage this side of the pond are Hatton and Calzaghe! In ireland, thankfully its a bit better as Bernard Dunne, John Duddy and Andy Lee are household names. Boxing is also taught in most schools over here.
The Rugby World Cup is coming up in a month! On the news yesterday? Nothing!! Why?? No! Apparantly the charity shield is more important! You dont see rugby players "roasting" girls, making fun of american tourists after 9/11 or "forgetting" drug tests. Plus its a much more exciting game to watch! And I dont even understand it!
