Rampage Media Day!
Rampage Media Day!
Tuesday, August 21, 2007
Carlos Arias of the Orange County Register had a chance to visit Quinton Jackson’s training camp in Big Bear California during a “media day.” He’s written a pretty lenghty report of his trip and here are some of the more interesting insights he uncovered.
* In preparation for his UFC title fight with Dan Henderson, Rampage has been sparring with Michael Bisping, Cheick Kongo, and Brandon Vera. He also has spent a couple of weeks training with Couture in Las Vegas.
* Rampage’s trainer, Juanito Ibarra, said that Wanderlei Silva and Mauricio Rua had a little “extra help” when they beat Rampage and the outcome will be different if they fight again in the US.
* Juanitio wants Jackson to take 6 months off after his fight with Henderson.
* Bisping and Rampage has forged a bit of a friendship after “sharing some pints together.”
* Juanito thinks Bisping is destined to be a UFC champion.
* Michael Bisping believes he could drop down to 185lbs.

I think that would be good not only for Bisbing, but for the MW div as well...

I wonder what he is implying here. No amount of steroids would have changed the outcome of those fights, Chute Box just has Page's number, plain and simple.

Meh, now I almost hope Dan wins. Itd suck to not have the LHW title on the line until March 08...

Bisping at Middleweight would be really awesome. Hope he actually does it after this fight.

Bisping is definitely a smaller 205. He could drop down to 185 pretty easily, IMO and would be a force at that weight for sure.
I'm not sure what kind of "extra help" Juanito's referring to, but if he's implying steroids then he needs to have some kind of evidence to back it up before he starts shooting his mouth off about 2 of the most respected competitors in all of MMA who have also fought in the USA with athletic commissions and testing.
I really don't think size is going to be an issue in this fight, I mean Hendo is 1-1 against Big Nog, 1-1 against Wanderlei, and wins over HWs like Gilbert Yvel and plenty of wins over other LHWs like Allen Goes. Rampage might have a strenght advantage... might, but Hendo has the better wrestling by a wide margin while Rampage might have a slight advantage in the technical striking. I'm actually leaning towards Hendo, which would be a shame because I think Shogun would blow through Rampage while Hendo would be a much tougher matchup for Shogun.

Just an FYI, Rampage was supposed to be a guest on ESPN First Take today, but it was superseded by the Little League World Series (which is fine since I have money on that). There may be a rebroadcast on ESPNews or later today on ESPN2. I'll post if I see that it's coming on.

This is cool news. Sounds like Bisping might of gain respect for Ramage, to state that he would drop to 185. Interesting to say the least. Bisping could be a force in the mw divsion. Great news!

Bisping at 185 lbs would be just perfect. He and Franklin could put on a sick fight and I see Mike B. having his chance with Silva, eating a couple of shots but then taking him to the ground and pounding him there.
If he can drop to 185 lbs, that is the perfect move. I guess his fight with Hamill will tell him where he stands in the LHW division. If Matt gives him too much trouble he should drop. There is too much talent at 205 lbs and too little at 185 lbs.

I wonder what Rampage's coach has against supplements. Interesting that Hendo was upset that Randy would train with someone who went to his gynm. I can't call this fight other to say it should be very exciting and competetive, I respect both mens talents.

I am willing to bet against you if this happens. I think Bisping would give Franklin a hell of a time, considering that he is a bigger guy and equally fast, very good at gnp. Also, Rich has not looked the same since Silva put a beating on him. He does not remind of the Franklin that cremated Quarry.

I don't think we will learn that much from his fight with Hammil, only when/if Bisping fights one of the top 7 or 8 lhweighters will we see how he copes.
A drop in weight would be a good move anyway though i think.

I actually consider Hamill a tough, natural LHW, who will actually be a top 5 fairly soon. So, if Bisping can actually beat him, I will be very impressed.

Yeah i see where your coming from although Hammil doesnt seem rounded enough to me to be seen as a top tier fighter, We cant question his wrestling and his take down defence but we havnt seen him up against a top class striker which i think Bisping is.
