I'm so glad this fight has finally been confirmed for UFC 56 (MMA Weekly) and we get to see GSP fight again

There's no doubt that Sherk is going to be a very tough match for GSP. They are both incredibly strong fighters, and Sherk has a very impressive record (33-1-1) I'm not sure if GSP's best bet to win it is to keep the fight standing.

I just hope he can win this and then hopefully we get to see GSP challenge Hughes for the belt.

Should be the best fight of the night. Followed by Rich/Nate and Matt/Karo.

I like GSP in one of his toughest fights yet by sub. Rich over Nate by knock out in the late rounds, and Matt over Karo probably by sub.

Okay...saying that GSP wins and Hughes beats Karo, is GSP next? How long before the UFC gives him his shot? Personally, I think he should have it at UFC 56, but the UFC is aprehensive having one of their golden boys loose the title.

Yeah, I'm glad Matt and GSP are back on the same UFC card now. If they both win, they will be perfectly lined up for a title shot at UFC58 or something, maybe even UFC57 on Super Bowl weekend.

I don't know anything about Sherk, but obviously his record is phenomenal. I want to see the Hughes/GSP rematch for the title, but both Karo and Sherk could ruin that at UFC56. Both fights will hopefully be awesome.

I just don't know enough about Sherk to make an honest prediction.

I know one thing. This card is looking awesome! This will definitely be my first UFC PPV! I'm excited!

so what??? so if you lose a title shot your career is over?? you really think he is not the #1 contender. Didnt he really mess up Karo over 3 rounds when he won? i believe GSP is the most exciting UFC fighter with possibly the best skills which are becoming more and more polished... with your logic there shouldnt have been a chuck vs randy II.... nevermind a third

WOW! That is definately a must see event.

My predictions:

GSP over Sherk TKO ref stoppage
Matt over Karo submission 2nd round
Rich over Nate KO 2nd reound

But I wouldn't bet on them just a gut feeling.

This is one of the best cards I have seen in a while. Can't wait for this one!

This will be the 2nd time in a row GSP is fighting another fighter whose only lose is to Matt Hughes.

Pretty sure whomever wins this gets Matt next time or Karo if Karo manages an upset.

What logic? He wasn’t saying anything about GSP deserving another shot at Matt.

Back on topic. This is now the fight I am looking forward to seeing the most. But then again I was expecting a lot out of GSP v Trigg. And look how that turned out. My money is on another win for GSP.

Yep. I agree with you completely (I'm not even going to respond to the frantically raving Luvtobox). One loss doesn't mean you don't deserve another shot later on, especially if the first fight was exciting. I only said what I said because your post seemed to imply that the UFC has owed GSP a title shot and they've never given him one. He had it, and he lost because of his relative inexperience. I believe that he's a much better fighter now, so he stands a good chance of upsetting Hughes in the rematch.

He lost with 1 second to go in the 1st round. I, for one, thought the round was already over, and the 1 second left thing was kinda iffy. Those last 5 seconds sure seemed like 10 or 15 seconds. And GSP looked pretty good for the majority of the 1st round against Hughes, so he definitely deserves another shot.

However, I forgot about Nick Diaz. If he beat Diego Sanchez, which I think he will by decision, shouldn't he be close to getting a title shot? He has fought very well in his last few fights.

Has he fought GSP or Hughes yet? I think he lost to Karo by decision, but it was close wasn't it? So Diaz deserves a shot pretty soon too.

Diaz lost by split decision to Karo but has not gone up against GSP yet.
I think he needs to fight GSP before Hughes but it could be that by the time that heppens GSP may have already beaten Hughes.

oh your not even going to respond. you must be so high and mighty lol. this post makes much more sense since you actually explained what you are talking about instead of just making generic statements that GSP had a title shot like he shouldnt get another one.. i would hardly say my post was frantically raving... thank you for taking the time to make sure your posts make more sense

From everything I've heard, Sean Sherk is a great fighter and will prove to be quite the opponent for GSP. I think GSP is on right now, I think he has the belt in his sights and he's ready to face whoever he has to in order to get it. I don't think it's going to be long before he's a serious threat to Hughes, if he isn't already.

He shouldn't be running over this opponent quite like he did his last, so this should give an idea of how he is improving. I'm hoping and thinking that GSP is gonna take it.

Karo is good but the only person I see right now that could take Matt's belt is GSP. And I think that (assuming that he wins this fight and barring any injury) we will see GSP v Hughes some time soon.
