Default Shogun talks Griffin Loss, and has knee surgery scheduled

MMANEWS.COM | Shogun Talks Griffin Loss, Has Knee Surgery Scheduled

Quote:
The following is an excerpt from an article in a local Curitiba, Brazil newspaper roughly translated from Portuguese to English:

“I was Really very sad, was the worse defeat of my career”, declared Shogun. Previously, a broken arm - in the fight against Mark Coleman - and a finishing against Renato “Babalu” Sobral in 2003 had been the only defeats of the "curitibano".

“I had never gassed as i gassed in this fight. But he does not advance to invent excuses, the error was mine, I did not train as he would have, I did not concentrate myself, had had other things that had confused, but it also had merits. "I learned a lesson from this and now i will have to train to comeback stronger”, relieved the fighter.

In the fight, the breath lack made with that the "curitibano" searched all the time to knock down Griffin, but without success. The exchange of blows also was engaged. “As i gassed, i wanted to decide on the ground, in a top position. At the beginning, the objective was to fight standing and to decide there, but as the time went by, i got very tired”, lamented.

Beyond the problems in the preparation, Shogun also blamed an injury in one of the knees as one of the problems faced for him in the last two months. “I busted the ligament during trainings, I was limited, i could not run, i could not thresh right. Still though, i trained sufficiently, but not enough”, he affirmed.

To decide the problem, Shogun disclosed that “it will go for the surgery” already on this friday (28). “I'll have a knee surgery on friday and must be away from training for the next three months. For what I talked with the master Rudimar (Fedrigo), I'll only comeback to fight in January or February”. The goal, although the defeat, follows being the same one: “The goal is the belt, the fight continues”, concluded.
So it seems he might not have taken Griffin too seriously. His knee also could have had something to do with the not training as hard. But he doesn't use that as an excuse and I hope to see him back as soon as we can.

Jeez, calm down. The excuses that you said he made, imo aren't really excuses. He didn't say that is why he lost and that he would beat Forrest the next time or anything. He admitted that Forrest was better than him that night. Maybe he didn't train hard. If he didn't that is not an excuse, it is a fact. But either way he definitely should have trained harder, and that is all on him.

So is there any way to report an injury without it sounding like an excuse? He admits that he probably didn't train hard enough and that Forrest was the better fighter on that night. He's going in for knee surgery. In no way does he disparage Griffin or say that he would have won if.... What else can you tell a reporter when they ask about a loss, especially one in which a fighter looked totally out of character?

Agrea. This is a not easy doing right. I rememer Fedor going out stating he had a bad toe so it would not sound like a excuse after the match with Randleman. Then you have an excuse no matter how the match goes.
If you win people will say you are a hero, if you loose youre still a hero for taking the match. I think this is actually worse. It gives you a garanti instead.

When it comes to excuses was it not our own hero Randy who sayd afer loosing to Belfort saying that it was not a real loos cus he got knocked down by a lucky punch? Some kind of a champ??? That is actually the worst excuse I ever seen. Since UFC love him so much they have not botterd to upoload this match and I have not seen it so somone please fill me in if Rogan does not tell the story good enoug in UFC49

I gues it`s har no matter how you say anything. He should have just sayd that he got a knee injury=I can`t see that this would have helped anything cus then people would have speculated even more which would maybe have taken a lot away from Forest Gifins win.

Actually I like Sylvia. I also wanted Griffin to win so it's not that I was saying that because I like him or anything.

Yeah I completely agree with this.

I just couldn't make my response sound this good.

I see nothing wrong with fighters telling about some injury they had after a fight.
I'm sure he would have mentioned it even if he had won. Then it wouldn't have been an "excuse".

It's another thing though, when a fighter repeatedly makes baseless accusations about vaseline on the legs/arms, juicing etc.

In conclusion:
Shogun - good
Tito - bad

Have you ever seen Shogun fight outside of the UFC? Obviously you haven't, making excuses is not out of the question when you see how much of a different fighter he was in his octagon debut. Something was amiss.

wow now I see why Dana is always badmouthing internet websites. Some of your are just retarded. He says in the interview that he didnt train like he should have. Its a fact that he needs knee surgery.

"the error was mine, I did not train as he would have, I did not concentrate myself, had had other things that had confused, but it also had merits. "I learned a lesson from this and now i will have to train to comeback stronger”

"Still though, i trained sufficiently, but not enough”, he affirmed.

He admits he didnt give it his full effort. He said he learned a lesson and will be prepared for his next fight. If you read between the lines and the transation, it sounds like he took Forrest lightly and paid the price. Why is everyone jumping all over the guy.
