Default What Makes Fedor So Good?

Hey guys,

I was just looking at Fedor's record , and my god ! , i cannnot believe what I saw , he's beaten pretty much everyone he's fought.

And Its quite amazing since he's one of the smallest heavyweights going around being 6 foot and just making 100Kg .

I was just thinking what the hell makes him so good? i know he's got probably the best ground and pound ive ever seen , and his submissions are awesome!

I would go with his poise. The men never seems to get shaken and is always able to enforce what he wants to do. We will see how M-1 forms out but think that it will take awhile to develop so in my mind there will always be a question of is he as good as I think he is. If he fought in the UFC with the current talent pool that would of done alot to settle that question in my mind.

I've posted this in other threads, but Mark Coleman, who's been smashed by Fedor twice, says there are two key things that make him the best:

1. He can put as much force behind his punches on the mat as he can standing up, and

2. He has amazingly fast and mobile hips for a big guy. Any jiu-jitsu dude will tell you that a lot of the technique is in the hips, and you want the speed and flexibility to shift and spin them for reversals and gain position.

If Fedor gets mount on you, he's either smashing your face with brutal punches, or he's spun into an armbar before you even know what's happening.

He switches gears from one fighting style to another so fast as if he's a LW! He attacks with more power than any other HW fighter does!

He basically excels in every departments! Offense and defense!

Fedor is good. He has been involved in many wars with the likes of CroCop, Fujita and Big Nog. However his recent choice in opponents has me wondering how good he is today. he has'nt fought anyone who is top 10 in his division in years. i am left feeling that part of his success also has to do with Pride's way of doing business, lots of last minute match making. so is Fedor good? Of course. Is he the best? i think he was, but his lack of quality opponents and lack of recent in ring action makes me say no.

So who would you consider the best then? Big Nog? Please don't say Randy.

Since the downfall of Pride the UFC has had an injection of new talent in the Heavyweight division. i don't really see anyone really having an advantage. Randy is certainly on a roll, much more so then Fedor who has'nt fought anyone at his own level in years. this whole M-1 fiasco is'nt helping the situation. Fedor the best? only by default since he did beat the best Pride had to offer but that was several years ago. overall the division is so scrambled i don't see how anyone can pick the #1 heavyweight. i do think Tim Sylvia has the ability to be the best again if we ever see the Tim of old that mauled Ricco Rodriguez.

I agree 100% about big Tim. I think if he can get the agression that made him the champ he once was, people will really struggle against him.

I think the no 1 heavyweight is between Josh Barnett,Tim,Big Nog and possibly Vera. Of course in the future,Brock Lesnar could prove he is a force to be reckoned with.

Fair enough, I respect your opinion and understand where you are coming from. MMA is going to end up like boxing pretty soon where there are mutliple champions with no solid way of creating rankings.

i think its well on its way to being like boxing. like Dana White said, "MMA was a sport that nobody wanted anything to do with until the UFC did all the hard work.". now you have promotions popping up left and right with thier own champions in each division. for me, with Pride being no more, the UFC is the place to prove your place in the rankings. other promotions build thier ranks with guys who did'nt make it in the UFC or PrideFC. this whole M-1 thing is a joke, its going to be the watch Fedor beat up has beens and cans network. people will pay just to see Fedor win, not really compete.

great post... i agree 100%

no one wants 4 champs at each division.. it ruined boxing.... and fedor in M-1?
he might as well retire at that point because i could care less about that whole organization.... i LIKE one definitive champ in THE organization... everyone talks about competition etc etc... go watch boxing with its 8 IBF champs... fedor should be EXCITED about the UFC getting pride, because he HAD the chance to fight all these major fighters, in a major market under the lights... he blew it.... i wont watch one of those M1 fights except a randy fight that will NEVER happen if dana had randys contract

You still don't get it.

You think that Fedor "blew" his chance? I would say the opposite, that the UFC blew their chance. Their HW champ will never have any credibility until Fedor is thrown into the mix. They obviously offered him a contract that didn't suit his needs, what is so hard to understand about that?

feel free to be condescending all youd like lol...

YOU think that... but most US fans dont know who fedor is and have never seen him fight.. he got offered a huge contract and the chance to show everyone his skills and who he is... that will never happen now... and if you goto any bar and talk to an average MMA fan, they will ask what fedors last name is....

So that's it? It's up to the organization to meet the demands of the fighter, or they f**ked up? What if Fedor wanted five million per fight, the right to handpick all his own opponents, the right to fight for the championship of any competing organization, and he wanted the name changed to the Fedor Fighting Championship? Does that mean the UFC should be obligated to do all that?

It's worth considering that Fedor was making unrealistic demands, and as much as the UFC wanted to sign him, they couldn't bend over that far.
