We use mostly palm strikes in Krav because, as previously stated, the odds of breaking your unpadded hand on someones face is greatly reduced. I know Bas Rutten has preached the palm strike while groundfighting with your opponent in your closed guard. I believe what he said was that you give yourself an extra couple inches of space to create more velocity with your strikes. Conversely, this reduced range can hurt you in a stand up war with someone else who trains enough to know how to intelligently defend.

It is not about putting something into your body and walking around with big muscles saying look at me. In my book if you are on steroids you are a loser."
