UFC Fight Night 12 Targeted for Jan. 23

The next installment of the UFC and Spike TV’s “UFC Fight Night” is being targeted for Jan. 23.
UFC President Dana White briefly mentioned the event during yesterday’s UFC 78 conference call. Details of the possible event were minimal, though.
As of now, the UFC hasn’t officially reserved the date with the Nevada State Athletic Commission, according to the NSAC website. However, the event wouldn’t necessarily take place in Las Vegas. The UFC has made the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Florida a frequent stop lately, and during the past couple months, White has said that the organization will travel to new destinations — possibly including New Mexico, Iowa, Indiana and Colorado — for “Fight Night” events in 2008.
No fighters have been rumored for the event, though “TUF” alumni such as Chris Leben, Nate Diaz and Nate Quarry are possibilities.
If the Jan. 23 date holds true, the event would take place a week and a half before UFC 81 (which is the UFC’s annual SuperBowl weekend show) and four days after a UFC 79 event in Newcastle, England.
The UFC hasn’t held an official UFC Fight Night event since Sept. 19, when Kenny Florian submitted Din Thomas in the night’s main event.
