That is merely one tool in the toolbox of Reality TV writers (story producers). For all we know, Serra never intended to be so openly against Hughes. The story producers could easily have noted that Serra had called Hughes a dick many times. They could easily have told him to keep hitting that nail on the head any chance he could get. Maybe not.

Look, Reality TV has NOT ever been a documentary style. They do not merely follow people around and hope for the best. They have far too much money invested to take that kind of a chance. Too many network sponsors and network executives to make happy. They literally have to ensure that they get drama, conflict (not fighting, but dramatic conflict), characters, and entertainment.

A good example would be that episode with the J-Rock fight. IIRC, Mac Danzig said in his blog that the fight took place thirty minutes after the fight from the previous week. But, watching that episode, they made it seem like it was a week later or whatever. They interjected a bunch of BS to fill the episode. But, it was not chronological.

Another give away are the confessionals. They play out a story line and then get everybody to sit in the confessional and talk about it. They choose those confessionals that best suit the story.
