Wow, I'm do happy I could burst. What makes it even better is I'll be home in time to watch it on PPV. War Hughes!

I'm pretty confident GSP is going to come out of this with the win, which is good and bad, good because I like GSP but bad because it means we might never see Serra fight Hughes which I was looking forward to seeing.

You took the words right out of my mouth. I would much rather see GSP/Hughes than Serra/Hughes any day of the week. You can tell how much GSP was salivating for this opportunity by agreeing to it so quickly.

*****

It amuses me how everyone is so quick to dismiss Hughes. I know he's very unlikeable, but how can the most dominant WW in UFC history (and arguably of any weight class), be considered an automatic win for GSP? They're still 1-1 against one another.

I pretty well just ran around my living room screaming YES YES YES this a great fight (much better then Serra/Hughes IMO). This is the most excited I have been for a fight card in awhile now.

It would only have been better if Hughes agree to take on all of the Gert Jonnys.

They are 1-1 versus each other but Hughes only dominated a total of maybe (just maybe) 1 minute of both fights combined.

Lets face it A. Silva has Franklins number and GSP will prove he has Hughes number.

Matt Hughes has gone from believing he would kick Serra's ass in an easy fight to having to fight his nemesis. They must have offered him a ****load of money for him to accept getting his ass kicked again when he thought he was getting a free ride to the belt.

The big winners here are the fans. Many of us actually still believe that GSP is number one in the division and number two overall (A.Silva being the man.)

This awesome news. I guessing this fight could spell the end of Hughes if he gets KO'd again by Georges... Hopefully not though, because I still want to see a Hughes vs Serra fight after this one. Well maybe not after this one, because the winner faces Serra in April, hopefully in Montreal.

Your post is wrought with wrongness. First of all, Serra was not and easy fight, he is (arguably the number 1 WW in the world).

Secondly, it is not a fact that he will lose to GSP or for that matter get his "ass kicked."

Have you learned nothing in 2007 the year of the upset.

Anything can happen in MMA.

I think if Hughes loses he will be offered the winner of Hendo Silva for the title at 185 b/c they are hurting for contenders there.

How serious is Serras injury? I know it's something with his back just wondering how long it will be before he can fight again.

The injury (I heard) was 3 Herniated discs which usually require surgery. I had 1 bulging disc while in Germany (in my army days) and that made my everyday life hell and a bulging disc is way less severe than a herniated disc.

Think of the game Jenga. You know when the block is like barely sticking out (that is bulging) when it is half-way out and you cant believe it is still standing that is herniated

what makes everyone think that this fight will go exactly like thier last one? Hughes tried to stand with GSP in thier 2nd fight and that's what cost him, he came in with a poor gameplan and GSP fought the fight of his life. Hughes is healthy and will be focused, you better believe that he's not going to try to stand with Georges, he will take him down and GnP. Yes, Georges has one of the best sprawls in the game, but Matt has some of the best TD's, he is also a crafty fighter that finds ways to win and capitalizes on his opponents mistakes. if this fight goes to the mat, then Hughes will win the fight, he is a much better grappler than GSP.

I agree with all that, however Hughes did not exactly dominate GSP in the first fight either. I scored that round with many others in GSP's favor except the armbar that he will not succumb to again.

My point of view is that this is a much more compelling fight than Hughes-Serra and will be the breaking pint for Hughes meaning:

If he wins he stays at 170

If he loses he fights 1 fight at 185 against Silva/Hendo and retires.

In my very humble opinion

Well I guess this GSP/Huges is better then nothing. I would not mind watching them fight again. I have no idea why GSP would accept a fight like this on such short notice. Lets hope its a good one.

Be prepared for people making excuses for GSP if he loses though.

Well lets be honest here GSP is taking the fight on "short notice" but these guys train all year with short breaks in between. So in reality Hughes is also on "short notice" they will both be ready you are talking about two of the top ten WW's in the world.

Not really like we are talking about Fedor vs. Hong man Choi here.

That is a Top five HW fighting a C level fighter that is taking the fight on short notice.

Besides these guys can turn the fight down.
