Because Matt hasn't gotten any taller and his boxing skills really haven't improved. The first fight was with a younger more inexperienced GSP. The more experienced GSP isn't going to allow Hughes to take him down. Matt just doesn't have the tools get in close enough to get a takedown. GSP will strike and then avoid the takedown. And if GSP takes Hughes down, the height difference is too great. Hughes' short legs will not work well in guard agains GSP. It's a bad match-up for Hughes. You can throw the first fight out the window, as GSP is much more experienced now. I think even Josh Kos could take it to Hughes at this point and probably several others. In the past, it was all Hughes. Those times have come and gone as fighters have become more well-rounded.
