Default Anderson Silva vs GSP

Does anybody think is it Possible that GSP would ever move up to fight Silva? It would be an unbelievable match

Yeah it would be a great match but I think this should be in the fantasy section for now.

Poll added. I see this fight being quite even. GSP would do best to try to take the fight to the ground, which he could do with his superior wrestling. However, Silva's reach advantage could be problematic for GSP while they stand, and this is where Silva has his best chance of finishing the fight. At this moment, I'd pick Silva by TKO round 2.

There aren't any middleweights that can hang with him, save for maybe Hendo. I don't think that GSP would pose any kind of threat, standing or on the ground.

I think if GSP bulked up then it would be a good fight.

I have to see how the Hendo vs. Silva turnout but GSP may give Silva some hard time if he fights the same way as he did with Matt Hughes.

How much more does GSP need to bulk up? He towered over Hughes. AS is not very bulky anyway.

GSP doesn't even need to bulk up. He is a natural MW that cuts down to WW. GSP is huge for the WW division. I remember reading somewhere that GSP walks around at about 190 lbs, he cuts 20 lbs to make 170 and would even need to cut 5 lbs to make 185. He is about the same size as Anderson Silva (who is not a huge MW). I definitley want to see this fight happen someday. I could easily see the fight going either way, it would be hard to call a winner.

Striking: Anderson Silva is 6'2" and GSP is 5'10,5". Both are great long distance striker but 4 body inch makes a big difference. Silva is to strong at close striking and clinch.

Wrestling: GSP Is a lot better at wrestling then Silva

BBJ: Once on the ground, if gsp is on top since he has a good wrestling. GSP could pull a win by sub or GnP. Silva is Blackbelt at BBJ but GSP is Brown Belt and the fact he is smaller would help him pass guard and don't make big mistake on the ground.

Best strategy would be to exchange with Silva a long distance a few kicks and take him down then work for the GnP or Sub. What you guys opinion

I'm the bigest GSP fan but maybe Silva might be to much perfect. He has thin long leg and arms. He has the physic to stay champion at 185lbs forever.

p.s. check at 2:02 when he turns from being on the ground in full guard and turns to full mount. wtf.

Yep he walks around at 190lbs every day so is not a problem to make 185.
But i think Silva have maybe a better stand up.

I'd give Anderson the striking advantage, and not so much the BJJ advantage but a "long limb" advantage that would give GSP problems while he was in Anderson's guard. I'd give the wrestling and quickness advantage to GSP by a longshot. This is a dead heat in physical attributes so it would come down to the mental game IMO.

I'd give Anderson the nod in the first fight and GSP in a rematch.

this would be an incredible fight. in regards to striking id say silva has a slight edge with his hands, additionally because of reach advantage and they have rather even kicks. in the clinch silva would try to throw knees and elbows but it think gsp's wrestling would overcome that. and their ground games are pretty even. id say gsp by GnP or sub, or silva by highlight reel tko. i have the tiniest leaning towards gsp.

It would be a war, but I see GSP having the better gameplan. I think he'd shoot right off the top just to keep Silva guessing and then test the stand-up.
I think GSP would be the underdog, but I also think that he would be AS's biggest challenge (I'll commit to that after Silva-Henderson).

I looked for a thread with these two competitors as I have always seen this fight as possibly the greatest fight ever in MMA.

To use monikers “the most complete fighter” in the sport v “the best pound for pound” fighter in the world.

Looking back at their previous fights this would be tough one to call.

GSP has looked very good and been on a tear but the fight against an unfit BJ who has fantastic hands raise a few questions.
No doubt GSP is ready to go at every aspect of the game but how will he feel challenging in the Maui Thai field? He has shown how well he excels when training look at his wrestling ability which stands at an incredible level now.
His striking ability is very good in all areas and his submissions of a good standard also.

Anderson Silva has faced off against someone who may not be as complete a fighter as GSP but is not far off in Rich Franklin. Some may disagree but I believe Ace is a well rounded fighter with GNP and standup, to a lesser degree submissions but we all know it never got to the stage where Rich had to display any skills.
I would place Rich’s knockout power above GSP with regards to hand strikes.
Everyone knows what happened to Rich against Anderson and Rich is a much larger fighter and stronger than most Middleweights so size is no factor against Anderson. This is not to wipe GSP out of the picture because Rich’s abilities and determination is different from GSP but it does show that Rich well known for his strong standup game and domination could do nothing to harm the crisp technique of Spider!
Although the Anderson has been made to look more human in a few previous fights the level he is at today and the fights against relatively good competition in Nate and Travis point out submissions and the ground game may be his forte now but all will be revealed against Mr Hendo!

It would all come down to GSP’s strategy and implementation how do you get past the spidery strikes and take the guy down quick enough to submit him if at all possible with the improvement of Silva and all time high that Silva is enjoying looking near enough unbeatable where as GSP had the title defense shakes with Serra.

As you can guess I give the Fight to Anderson who would cement his “best pound for pound” legacy with a first round knockout.

I would have to admit though im a huge Matt Hughes fan and it could be possible im letting some things cloud my judgment.
I know how great GSP is and this fight is right now the best fantasy fight out there in my opinion.

i know its not part of the topic but in relation to what ufc legacy just brought up, rich franklins ground skills are pretty underrated. his hands are dynamite so he has understandably become known for his stand up, but he also has four arm bar submissions and a keylock submission on his record.

If GSP beats Serra, then this fight has to happen. Period.
