Default NINJITSU and Sumo wrestling

Apparently these arts were more popular back in the early UFC's , I've seen some of the techniques used in Ninjitsu , and was the reason why ninjitsu and sumo disappeared was becoz of its inefficient techniques?

Sumo never stood a chance as becoming a force in MMA. Its an ancient Japanese art that has to really heavy guys pushing and pulling on each other using very specific rules. Ninjitsu is also more of a fighting strategy as opposed to a hand to hand combat form. There are probably a handful of techniques that could be useful for MMA but better variations of them exist in BJJ. Being a Ninja was all about not being seen. Sort of hard to hide in the cage.

That's why you gotta go in there with your smoke bombs!

From what I understand, a lot of the actual combative techniques in Ninjitsu involve illegal blows and small joint manipulations...useless in a cage.

Sumo fights are so short...there's likely no way to withstand that force of 300+ lb. guys for very long. In fact they go to sleep right after they eat a big heavy lunch in order to keep weight on. Perhaps that's why the life expectancy of the average sumo wrestler is something like 20 years less than that of the normal Japanese population.

I just saw a special on Nat'l Geographic channel on Sumo. It was pretty cool but it highlighted that there's still minimal interest in Sumo in America. It's all about rank in Japan...the Yokozuna (top dog) gets to sleep the latest, eat first, etc.
