And because I Know you were all waiting around for it...

Heatwaves' Unofficial 2008 Top 10 List

1. 3:10 to Yuma - The best Western since "Young Guns IV: Cowpies & Buckaroos"
2. No Country For Old Men - I'm a big Cormac McCarthy fan and this film nearly paralleled a great book.
3. Zodiac - A surprisingly compelling drama about a group of people trying reveal the Zodiac killer.
4. There Will Be Blood - Daniel Day-Lewis, yadda, yadda, yadda. Other actors are dancing monkeys in comparision.
5. Breach - The best movie no one ever heard of. CIA espionage drama.
6. Walk Hard: The Story of Dewey Cox - Ray Charles may have been blind, but Dewey Cox's story is more tragic. He's smell-blind.
7. Shoot 'Em Up - I'm not an "action movie" guy, but this one is the action movie to end all action movies. I now view carrots as weapons.
8. 28 Weeks Later - Unbelievably tense. I loved this one more than the first one.
9. (4-way documentary tie) King of Kong/No End In Sight/Sicko/Crazy Love - All four of these docs are great and on equal ground. The second one is about the turmoil of the Iraq War, while the last one is a romance about a man who threw acid in the face of his wife - and you wouldn't believe what happens next.
10. The Lookout - Poor-man's "Memento"

* My disclaimer is that I still haven't seen a couple of highly rated movies (Michael Clayton, Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Atonement, and Curious George and those Amazin' Elastic Pants).
