Default Vera expected to return in June

He said he wants to fight Arlovski but June might be too soon for AA - since he's fighting in early March. Plus AA will be a free agent. We'll see how that turns out. I'd like to see Vera fight again soon AND I'd like for the UFC to sign Arlovski.

UFC heavyweight Brandon Vera, currently sidelined due to injury, revealed over the weekend that he expects to make his return to the Octagon in June, against an unnamed opponent.

“I will be fighting in June, but I do not know exactly who I will be fighting,” Vera is quoted as saying in an article by Gary Herman on 15rounds.com. “There are a couple of names being thrown around, but nothing is official.”

Vera last fought at UFC 77 in October, where he suffered a disappointing unanimous decision loss to Tim Sylvia.

While Vera’s next opponent is uncertain, he did express a desire in taking on one fighter in particular.

“I would love to fight Andrei Arlovski,” Vera stated in the article. “He is someone I really look up to.”

While Vera vs. Arlovski would be an intriguing matchup, it’s one that is unlikely to happen unless the former heavyweight champion signs an extension with the UFC. Arlovski is scheduled to become a free agent on April 15 with the last bout on his current contract scheduled for UFC 82 on March 2 against Jake O’Brien.

Yeah, he was out a long time before the Sylvia fight, now he's out another long time period. I wonder how good a match up between Brandon Vera VS Fabricio Werdum would be?

I think Lesnar is supposed to be fighting again in June as well according to mmaweekly. Maybe they can do Lesnar vs. Vera. Talk about a total mismatch in size. Lesnar would have about a 60 lbs weight advantage.

Vera was extremely unlucky with his loss to Tim before he injured his hand he was getting the better of the exchanges.

From the first fight of Brandon Vera's I have truly believed he is destined to be a force in Heavyweight division. A fight against AA would be fantastic a true battle I believe we would see. Also fighting Gabriel G would make for an interesting battle.

id like to see him fight gabriel gonzaga. gonzaga is someone who i rate highly but hasnt quite performed, and vera is someone who i dont rate that highly but has been fairly successful. that fight would do some definite sorting out in my mind

Yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing either of those fights. Of course the UFC would have to sign Arlovski for that one to happen.
