How do you guys afford vacations?
Spring break is two weeks away, and I wanna go to exotic places.
The cheapest plane ticket to any destination is about 300 dollars, factor in spending money and hotels, and you have a couple grand.
Do you guys know anywhere I can go for 500 bucks, and have a good time?
I'm thinking about just hopping in my 1994 Buick Regal and driving to the ends of the Earth.Would run me about the same as a plane ticket from DC to Norfolk.

myrtle beach south carolina... far enough away from you now, but a very fun area during that time.... or anywhere on the coast in SC... its drivable, and things are cheap there... anywhere else can get pricey... look at your school though, they usually have package deals (although its prolly too close to the date to get involved)

For you, you can go to VA Beach. That can't be to far from ya. Or just shoot up to D.C. for the weekend and site see. Hop bars and clubs. Go a little south and hit up Myrtle Beach. Also you can camp out on the civil war battle fields around you . You need to get more friends together to get a better price break. It's also good to know a friend or a relative with a beach house. Good Luck.
To answer your original question, I can't really afford vacations

I work in Va Beach,so I'm there all the time, basically been there done that.
Was thinking about DC,I don't know what I'd do there though besides fulfill my National Treasure fantasy of stealing the Declaration of Independence.
Plane ticket to Brazil is only 1800 dollars.

Travel is funny in what costs are at any given time. I travel extensively with my job as I work for a corporate (sort of) flight department. One benefit I get is that any of the rewards programs miles or stays, etc I get to keep. So when I fly commercial to meet up with one our planes I get those miles, all the hotel stays, I get the nights/points. So when family vacation time comes, I'm really only paying for food. Now I know you may not have that luxury but, what I can suggest is to sign up for the rewards programs with various airlines and hotel chains. You'll get e-mail offers all the time for last minute get-aways and offers that are pretty reasonable. Airlines a lot of times will offer cheap fares (even internationally) if you are willing to travel on what they consider off days. The programs are free to sign up for. Also some like american airlines and delta have dining partners. Sign up with that program and you register a credit or debit card and every time you use that card at a member restaurant you'll get miles or points. The same holds true for rental cars, buying flowers, books at Barnes & Noble or Borders, etc. As for flying vs driving, I use the 5 hour rule. If I can drive somewhere and be there in less than 5 hours, I will drive it. If it's longer or much longer fly it.

You guys have the 2nd best. Vegas strippers are uno nuno.
Far as vacation goes, If you are wiling to drive, or have a friend that's willing, then you should be able to stretch your dollar pretty far. Especially if you get 3 or four guys together. Split gas and hotel, then blow the rest on booze and booty.

I don't think the amish pay any taxes. Maybe I'll become amish... On second thought, that would mean giving up FF, so I could never do it.

Here in the UK we have so many budget airlines its usually cheaper for me to fly somewhere in Europe than it is for me to catch a train or coach to London. For our honeymoon last September, my wife and I got plane tickets to Reus in Spain (from Gatwick, London) for £64 return each.
Before we decided to drive to Newcastle (about 275 miles from where I live) for UFC80 we were looking at using public transport and the cheapest option was to fly lol.
Saying that tho, the British love to travel so I spose the travel companies are just catering to demand. Americans dont tend to travel outside of America too much, so thats probably why air prices are so much higher there.
