Ok here my question. I have start doing jj but not good at all. But I wanna try something to my teacher and try to submit him. But don't know how but just found that maybe with a leg submission, if i'm doing it faster, i'm gonna be able.
So everytime we start, is always waiting me in this position.
So what do you think could be the best to try to submit with the legs?
Sorry i'm noob in the jj and have only 4 lesson of jj .
And want to buy dvd or books. What is the best to learn jj and I have nobody to train in my spare time. What do you think could be the best for me?
I have still yet to tap my trainer....He has been doing this for over 12 yrs...I have been doing it less than a yr...I have come VERY close many times...Just havent been able to seal the deal.
Just take it slow and dont get discouraged if you cant tap your own trainer....He is a trainer for a reason...and that is being way ahead of his students...

As a whitebelt, no kneebars, toeholds, leg locks, etc... are allowed in a tournament...
Just go on youtube and type in kneebars, toeholds, leg locks, etc.. and you'll find a bunch of stuff.....
I have been working on a nice transition where if you somehow miss grabbing the opponenets belt/waist when you get them in an omaplata, as they roll you grab there leg and transition into a knee bar...It is sweet when performed correctly...

Oh ok great thx. But i'm not going to do tournament. Only sparring in the gym
Honestly, you're not going to get your instructor, especially in a leg lock. If anything, he will view your leg attacks as a cheap, possibly disrespectful way to gain superiority over his seniority, which he has earned through years of training and sacrifice. I'd work on getting your fundamentals down and holding your own with your colleagues waaaaaaaaay before you think about submitting your instructor. Try to pass his guard instead of grabbing his leg and going for a half-assed ankle lock or heel hook. That will get you much further in grappling than worrying about tapping your instructor via leg lock. Fundamentals! Leg work, shrimping, standing up in the guard, holding mount, basic collar attacks, bridging, break falling, armbar/omoplata/triangle sequence etc etc etc ad nauseum.
I promise you that your instructor will respect you far more for trying to use technique to pass his guard and failing than trying to leg lock and failing.
In terms of books, I recommend Path to the Black Belt by Rodrigo Gracie and Kid Peligro. For videos, I gotta represent my SerraJitsu colors and recommend Matt and Nicky's instructional DVD's

Hey is that Leo V. up their ??? LoL didn't watch the vid....I love Leo !!
Well if your not very good as I think you said you will probably not sub the guy teaching you.......And unless its in the spirt of challenging your self and not just trying to show off I wouldn't do it he might get mad at sick someone on you to own you all day and not teach you very good anymore if you get him mad LoL
But I'd go with a Heel hook if you can lock it on those hurt and would get a tap pretty fast.
My fav sub though is the GoGoPlata its pretty hard to get out of if you can get your foot up that far its kind of easy to slip it on um for rubber gaurd if you make them think your just trying to stall and defend in rubber then go for it fast.
But I think more in a BJJ for MMA mind set and you are in class setting so you got a Gi on I'd guess so Judo flip his butt and Gi choke him :P
O I just saw you said he starts in that position.....LoL I thought that was your sig :P
Hmmm if he puts his hands up at all and you see a chance while standing I'd try for something sexy like a Flying Triangle.

The kid's up to his 4th class of BJJ, do you really think he's gonna land a flying triangle or gogoplata from rubber guard on his instructor? Also, I wouldn't be trying the heel hook at his level. The difference between feeling the submission and tapping, and a catastrophic blow out type injury to the knee is very, VERY subtle. At his level, he doesn't have the sensitivity yet to be looking for those. There's nothing really technical about grabbing a leg and cranking it from open guard. There are reasons why there are no leg locks in amateur tournaments . He should be focusing on how to pass guard. I'm really not trying to be a jerk, but I've seen enough young white belts injure their training partners trying the newest advanced leg lock/crucifix techniques that they saw on youtube. Everything you learn is like a piece of a puzzle, and it will all come together eventually. Just take what he teaches you, practice it, go over it in your head, and use proper technique and you will get better, maybe eventually even good enough to be a challenge to your instructor. Then you may end up getting those taps that you're looking for !

Great advice. I have been doing it 2.5 years and I can last with my instructor. Our two main instructors are a Machado black belt and a Gracie Brown who is getting his black in March. Both have been training for over 10-13 years, plus the other disciplines that have learned. The probability of catching them in an ankle lock or heel hook is slim to none. As you progress you will learn techniques to go from standing up, to the take down, and etc etc to you get to those final stages. When you get promoted to other belts you have to show that you can finish most of the whatever color belts that are in your class on top of putting the time into training. Most purple belts have been training between 5-7 years. Do not try to rush it, because it will all come with time and with sparring.

Don't be sorry! What you are looking to do from inside someone else's guard is to get out of it into side control or mount, also known as "passing the guard". Here's one sequence of moves you can use to get around the guard, though I prefer a good standing guard pass anytime
Ask your instructor! You pay for the lessons, get the most out of them! Congrats on the tap, feels good doesn't it? What position did you get the armbar from?

Hum yeah I know I paid for. But I just start and try to memorise most of everything so. That why i'm asking here too. Because I can see video and learn.
Sorry for this text, try to make less error lol because I will explain my arm bar lol.
I was in his guard, I try to turn and he put a knee on the floor, so I get up my legs and put my elbow on my knee, so he can take me inside. After I fake to get up and he moving, so I get out my other legs and jump into is chest. After that, put my hand on both of his arm and see him he was tired, so here my chance. Do the arm bar but he grab is two hand together. So I was, damn, what can I do. And now I remember my teacher was telling me in other lesson. With your feet, pus the other arm. So I push the other arm and that break the two hand. So here the arm bar. I was really but really happy.
And today, I was rolling with a purple belt. OMFG. He can do what he want, when he want lol. But that so funny, I just laugh, learn and study . When I try something, he told me, don't to that, because i'm gonna do this, I say, are you serious, at the time a told that, submission right now lol.
Honestly, when I start training mma, because I follow bjj, muay thai and kickboxing, I was sure that I will more love to stand up than to stay on the ground. But damn, I like so much on the ground lol.
