Default Herb Dean, referee extraordinaire...

I hate to pick on this guy, but everytime there is a controversy in a fight, Herb Dean seems to be in the middle of it.

Watch this fight video of Pete Sprat VS Ryan Ford

it makes you wonder if we are going to have to go to instant replay for MMA matches.

I think it be good in certain situations like if someone tap and the fight kept going. They could go back and stop the fight right then and their for statistics sake.

I watched that fight, and felt extremely cheated.
I hope this is reviewed, and overturned.
I still dont get how they can say( he's been hit harder than that, and needs to continue).
Notice how the bell gets quieter, and quieter everytime its replayed.

Did anyone else notice Herb react to the sound of the bell, but then change his mind and let the fight continue?

Wierdest stuff Ive ever seen actually. They restarted on the feet instead of on the ground? Spratt was so visibly rocked from illegal blows. I couldnt believe it. He basically went into that round stumbling. RIdiculous.

Yea its noticeable that his hands started crossing over eachother to end the round.

that is why i like the buzzer better then the bell it last a few seconds..
Herb Dean looked as if he wasn't sure it looked like he was focused on the fight and it got his attention but he wasn't sure if it would of lasted longer or if they would of rang it 2 or 3 times then it would of probably prevented this from happening

He was focused for sure, but when Pete went limp, and forde stopped momentarily, that should have been a good clue. Like you, I would rather hear the buzzer.

I agree with you that Herb f-uped and began to stop the fight but stopped. Also agree that every fighter should always protect themselves until the ref physically stops the fighters. This happens all the time, the refs are not perfect but also fighters must learn to cover up or continue to fight until the ref pulls you off.

I agree Herb messed up this one, also think that every fighters knows that until the ref stops the fight you keep fighting or protect yourself. This fight should have been stopped after he got knocked out. Herb deans bigger mistake was letting this fight continue and not taking responsibility for his mistake right there.

Yeah, Herb heard that bell, made the hand motion (then stopped), allowed a couple of vicious elbows to drop, and then lied about not hearing the bell.

It was in Canada, Mark Pavelich made it clear he wanted to showcase Ford, Herb's been known to screw things up...sounds like a recipe for success. Again, Ford might've won anyway but it sure looked suspect to me.
