I read your post too quickly....I thought Gina was fighting Lawler. Whew...I immediately thought of Fiore's questionable rubdowns leading to some HIT Squad hyjinx.

How the hell is Kimbo headlining a card with a title fight between Lawler/Smith? Smith may not be the biggest name or the best fighter but damn him and Lawler is going to be a pretty exciting fight to say the least...

Kimbo Slice vs TBA. TBA in this case means fighter with decent but not exceptional stand up and no ground game.

I can't wait to see Lawler vs. Smith. This will be a great fight!

As far as Kimbo Slice, I like the guy, but I'm sure he will face another fish. Hopefully not though, I'd like to see him get a test.

If thats true it makes sense. Warpath stood in front of Bas Rutten so its a given he'll trade with Kimbo. Plus no ground game to speak of as well as a good chin. Seems like a solid possible opponent for Kimbo. Now Kimbo vs. Warpath as the main event for MMA's network debut? I'm not sure about that one.

Very Good PR move putting a Female in that card.

Kudos to EliteXC, that's solid strategy.

I could care less either way but I think some people who are casually channel surfing or watching there first event might think otherwise. Seeing women beat the **** out of each other isnt some peoples cup of tea, I personally cannot stand womans MMA but I understand why others do.

Never Underestimate the power of the feminists in America.

NEVER.

Especially in fighting. I train where alot of women train and although we're sensitive to their requests? We're alway surprised how many women want to get in there with other women and sometimes other men and just bang.

True, and not just any female either. Gina has a chance to be one of their biggest stars. War GINA!

Krav, there's a big difference between women wanting to participate and the general masses wanting to watch.

Envision this. Gina comes into the cage with the crowd going nuts. The fight goes well until about 4 minutes into the first round. The opponent catches her with a wild right that stuns her. The opponent uses Carano's own Muay Thai style against her and lands 3-4 knees from the clinch. Gina goes down and the ref stops the fight. Thats fine. But when the camera zeros in on Gina, her face is mangled with her nose looking similar to Rich Franklin's after Silva destroyed it and a huge gash over her eye. You and I and all the hardcore MMA fans know this is part of the game. But to the casual viewer that CBS is hoping to draw, what will they think? The majority will think how terrible it is and never watch again. Its a risk that they will be taking big time.

Also, CBS has not announced Gina for this broadcast yet. Its just the rumor that EliteXC has leaked. But let's not forget that Gina was officially announced for the EliteXC Street Certified event in February but was later pulled due to her commitment to American Gladiators. She later said she had never given EliteXC the go ahead to announce her as participating since she knew she wouldn't have time to train. With the AG show being renewed, who's to say that she will be actually fighting at this event? Maybe this is why EliteXC has leaked her name, not officially announced it. They want to people talking about her even though they may know she won't be participating in it.

The past fights with Gina where very good.
I never really was convinced about women in MMA untill i saw a match from her.
It was just very very good, en very technical. And they know what they are doing when they step in there. On the other hand. Most People that watch MMA like blood and broken noses and stuff. So they don't mind if it's a women or a man. Only the man that pulles his kid away from the tv because itīs to violent will have alot off comments.

So i thin k it is a great thing that Gina is fighting. And i think that she will be on the card this time, because itīs the first card with CBS in the mix. And she enjoys the attention. (See fight girls and american gladiotor), and with another solid win the offers will only be more with these kind of shows.

I'll interested to see how this CBS thing works out. As for this card, I could really care less about Kimbo Slice. People are going crazy over this guy, but he would get completely destroyed against any decent HWs in the world. The Lawler/Smith title fight could be exciting, but Lawler is going to pick him apart after all is said and done.

And finally, as for the female fight, I could care less. That doesn't excite me one bit.

I'm a little surprised at how many of you are so against female MMA. I didn't know that kind of attitude prevailed here.

Personally, I'm certainly not against female MMA. I enjoy watching it, though not to the same level of male MMA.

I'm talking about the choice to show a female fight on the first network TV show. They, as in CBS/EliteXC, are not hoping for the hardcore MMA fans to tune in. Their viewing is a given. They are looking for the casual viewer to tune in to get the ratings. If only the hardcore MMA fan tunes in, ratings will be abysmal and its future will be shaky. Thats why a female fight on the first card is risky. If it turns into a bloodfest or gory female fight, that will turn off an awful lot of new viewers. Let the first card be complete without female MMA and get some of these viewers to get an understanding of the sport. Next card, put Gina or Shayna on there and bang away.
