Default Nate Diaz Victim of His Last Name?

With Joe Lauzon headlining April's Ultimate Fight Night and Nate holding down the 4th spot for his 3rd straight UFN, does anyone think his lack of promotion might be due to EliteXC's heavy marketing of his brother? TUF winners usually seem to get more love than that. I just hope it doesn't stall him and his place in the lightweight division because I believe he can be a serious contender.

Any thoughts?

IDK, I think they're doing him a pretty big solid by giving him Pelligrino. He asked, and they gave it to him. Remember, not too long ago Kurt was in a #1 contender match so in theory, this is a big jump up in competition. I agree with you that he has potential to be at the top, and if he wins this one, he's there.

If you look at Dana's face at the handing out of the first place TUF, that said it all. I don't think it was his plan to have Nate win the thing. Also, I'm sure Dana thinks Manny only lost because of a shoulder seperation, and that Manny would have won. I just don't understand why the rematch didn't take place earlier.

Having said all this, yeah, Dana doesn't like Diaz. It doesn't help when Nate says something about his brother in the post fight interviews.

I think that's on the money. Dana has no problem with Nick because if he did, he wouldnt have let him on the show. Dana will not be subtle with his feelings, he either trashes someone or eliminates them.

I agree with ya, FCM.

Kurt is a tough fight. If Nate is able to get past him in an impressive fashion, I think he'll earn a bigger name.

In Nate's defense he's very respectful when he mentions his brother. Nate always thanks Dana, The UFC, and the Fertittas for the opportunities, and then he'll make a short comment about his brother, but in a diplomatic tone.

It's not like nate is up there bitching about things. He's simply polite and respectful and I give Nate all t he credit for being very respectful in his role as TUF Champion.

That's tough to do for a younger brother who sometimes gets a bad rap for his older brothers behavior.

Nate realizes where he is, and is doing everything he can to make sure he doesent squander his opportunities.

I second everything Krav said, and will add only this; You can't expect Nate to diss his brother or pretend he doesn't exist. Nick has had a lot to do with Nate getting into fighting, and helping him train and giving other support. I would be disappointed in Nate if he didn't give his brother a shout out. I really don't think he is that guy to do that.

I don't think it is the best thing to be wearing SRH and thanking them after the fight. It's not to good for the sport IMO

I agree, Nate is doing a great job of staying true to both sides of the fence. He has b/c 1 of my favorite fighters to watch fight as he always finds a slick way to win. He has that toughness of Nick but adds that extra craftiness that I believe will eventually make him the better out of the 2.....

My thoughts are that maybe the UFC's overlooking him due to the fact that he won TUF on a default. Manny Gamburian was handing Nate his Ash until his shoulder popped.

Lol, actually we don't know that. It's why they fight the fights.

Exactly; I believe it would have been a really good fight in which Manny may have been ahead on the score cards but Nate pulls off some slick submission like he always does.....

Add a +1 to this opinion. Exactly what I think would have happened too.
