Cool UFC UFN on Spike TV (Jan. 2006)

Well, I thought we could an early start on a discussion thread for the next UFC event, which is on Spike TV in January.
Date: 01/16/2006 9:00 PM EST
Event Type: Spike TV - Ultimate Fight Night
Location: The Joint - Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Nevada
As far as I can tell, here are the two announced matches so far:
Tim Sylvia Vs. Assuerio Silva
Stephan Bonnar Vs. James Irvin.
I am sure that more fights will be announced as the weeks roll past.

Am I the only one that is starting to live life from UFC PPV to UFC PVV (or from Spike TV UFN to UFN, LOL)? I am very excited about the UFC after UFC56! Dana White is on a roll, as are many of the athletes. It can really get good. Lets hope that this UFN in January is as awesome as TUF2 Finale.

PS: Can we get a sticky here?

Is the Baroni v Leben fight on this card or will it be on 57?

Yeah, the Sylvia vs. Silva fight should really be decent. I think they are respectable HWs, although most people don't mention them. I guess the UFC has been trying to get Silva for awhile?

Also, I'm excited about Bonnar vs. Irvin. I didn't even know about Mike Swick vs. Jorge Rivera, so that will be awesome too. It will be interesting to see how Swick handles a guy much better than his last couple opponents. If he knocks out Rivera in the 1st round, Swick will be moving on up the list.

There are three good fights already announced, and I'm sure Leben will fight as well. I hope it's against Baroni, but I don't know if Baroni has agreed to anything with the UFC yet. If it is Leben vs. Baroni, that will be a hell of a fight.. Those two might come out slugging away.

They do have Baroni listed on the roster at the new UFC website.

I just saw Spencer Fisher vs. Aaron Riley on the rumor part of MMAWeekly. I honestly don't know much about either of these guys, but I thought I would post it for everyone else to see. The rumors part is usually correct from what I've seen.

Koschek will be fighting Jeremy Jackson too. I am actually glad to see they didn't get rid of him after his last fight. He has some potential.

Koscheck still needs to work on using his fists if he wants to do more than roll on the ground. In addition to my wonderful post, I just saw joe rogan on mad tv!

I think you guys got most of them but just in case, here's an updated card.
Tim Sylvia vs. Ausseurio Silva
James Irvin vs. Stephan Bonner
Chris Leben vs. TBA (likely Baroni but no confirmation yet)
Mike Swick vs. Jorge Rivera
Spencer Fisher vs. Aaron Riley
Josh Koscheck vs. Jeremy Jackson
Mike Whitehead vs. TBA (I haven't even heard any rumors about his opponent)
Drew Fickett vs. Jonathon Goulet (this one was just added)

I really look forward to the Sylvia/Silva fight and the Swick/Rivera fight. Those are two great fights to be able to see on tv. I also am curious about the Koscheck/Jackson fight, Kos has really impressed me lately with the way he's improved ten fold since the show and Jackson hasn't been in the UFC (to my knowledge anyways) since his really good fight with Diaz. This should be great for the UFC and Spike TV.

I'm not a big Mike Whitehead fan because of his lackluster performance on TUF, but I'm expecting a much better Mike Whitehead at UFN3 in January. I think he will show us what he really has. Surely the guy is good, or Dana White wouldn't bring him back again. He was awful on TUF2.

If Baroni is the guy facing Leben, this card will be stacked for sure. That will be a great event for us UFC fans and for Spike TV.

How are they going to fit all of those fights in the event? I hope that they just make it longer. There are some good ones on there. I wonder how good Whitehead really is and I want to see how Koscheck performes.

I would imagine 2-3 of the matches will probably be prelims that will be shown later on Unleashed, but the card sounds awesome right now.

Yeah that would be my guess. They'll probably only show about four of the fights unless they all end quickly. I think the UFC should tone down on there hype between fights for this card though. With all those possible wars I would hope that they leave talking to a minimum and leave more time for the fights. Another thing that crossed my mind is why not have two parts to it? They could show the main fights that day and then play the pre-recorded remainders the following weekend.

I doubt they will tone down the pre-fight hype. They haven't yet. We only saw four fights on TUF2 finale. They were great fights though, so it was fine with me. But they could have easily gotten in all the fights if they would just let guys fight.

But the pre-fight hype is what builds ratings and interest for a lot of fans. I would be fine if they put up the tale of the tape, let Buffer do the introductions, and get to fighting. That way, we would definitely see all the fights.

I personally think that Baroni would KO Leben. I like Leben but I think he would feel he has something to prove by standing with Baroni and Baroni has got really fast and deadly hands. Baroni is a meathead though and kind of a jerk so I would prefer to see Leben win just so we could hear more of Baroni's babblings.

I don't know about the KO. He does have the power but Chris has the hardest head I have ever seen. He has an iron jaw. Plus he has some pretty powerful hands himself. I say Leben by KO or ref stoppage. I really hope they air that fight.
