Default Rumor: Huerta to return at UFC 87...against Florian?

This makes sense. Lots of people have already said they'd like to see Kenny take on Huerta next. This could be a good one!

Five Ounces of Pain | Report: Roger Huerta to return at UFC 87

Quote:
This comes from the folks at MMA Madness:

MMAmadness’ own Ryan McKinnell has learned exclusively from a very reliable source, that UFC Lightweight superstar Roger Huerta will be making his Octagon return in Minneapolis on the UFC’s August card. An opponent has yet to be announced. Let the speculation begin…

Sounds about right for him to make his return. Plus, he trains and lives in the Minneapolis area, so this seems like a no brainer. Word on the street is that Kenny Florian wants Huerta next, so hopefully the UFC is listening. Florian vs. Huerta would be a solid addition to that undercard.
Florian wants Huerta next...

Five Ounces of Pain | Kenny Florian Wants Roger Huerta Next

Quote:
From The Fight Network:

“One fight I think that could be a blockbuster fight in the lightweight division is me and Roger Huerta,” Florian said. “I think that’s an incredibly marketable fight, a fight that could be the hottest fight right now in the lightweight division.”

I believe that yours truly said that this fight would be perfect for Florian’s next matchup to determine the number one contender spot in the division. Not too hard to call, so I won’t pat myself on the back too much, but KenFlo is absolutely right. This is a fight that needs to happen now. These two guys are the clear cut contenders for the title right now and it’s only natural that they face off against one another.

Huerta is on a little bit of a hiatus from fighting right now, I believe he said he was taking nine months off. Right around the time that Florian will be ready to go again, so should Huerta. Make it happen, UFC. Oh, and if you wouldn’t mind putting it on Spike TV that would be great, too.

I don't wanna come off as a Kenflo-hater or anything, but this was a smart move from Kenny.

Huerta is probably the best match-up for him out of all the guys ranked above Lauzon. He beat Guida, but I could see Guida giving Florian more problems than Huerta. Same with Maynard and Edgar. Basically the strong wrestlers are tough fights for Florian.

Agreed. Guida's pace put him on his back but Huerta still has solid wrestling. Standup I give to Roger with his boxing and reach, Kenny tauts his muay thai but other then kick's I don't see it. I don't know what will happen when it hits the ground, Roger has wrestling/strength, Kenny has better JJ.

I'm looking forward to this because I like Huerta and, although I don't like KenFlo much, I admit that he's one of the best lightweights in the UFC.

The funny thing is that few thought Huerta was legit before he beat Guida. But, to be honest, I don't think Guida would last more than 2 rounds against Florian, while against Huerta he was ahead at the beginning of the third.

Logically, Huerta is the underdog here. I give Kenny a 90% chance of beating him.

Ah, and I forgot to mention that I would rather see Florian fight Sherk or Penn, before Huerta. I think Kenny would beat BJ and give Sherk a very different match in their second fight. On the other hand, I don't think Huerta has much of a chance in a first attempt against either of the two. That said, I don't discard his being able to beat them in future matches.

I say Huerta would take this somehow, he got a heart like lion.

I just watched the fight nite this afternoon on my dvr due to my work/school schedule which is why I have avoided the FF the last couple of days.

Well earvinarp as much as I hate to admit it, I was impressed w/ Ken-flo in his win over Joe. I cant really explain why but I really do not like Kenny and I want to see him lose. He is a good MMA fighter though but I still dont believe he could beat BJ b/c of his natural ability or Sherk just b/c it is a bad match-up for him. As far as Huerta goes I am not sure, Kenny is great at holding guys down on their back (Lauzon) and Roger is very hard to keep contained in 1 spot. What Huerta may lack in technique he more than makes up for in that he is a fire cracker and very active scrambler. That would be a very interesting match-up and I am not sure who I would pick to win. This really should happen w/ the winner getting a title shot.....

Nope. Sherk would control Kenny again for 5 or 3 rounds no problem.

And BJ would dominate him. I would see that fight going like Diego-Kenny back in the day. I don't care if he's improved, BJ's on another level.
Takedown, pass the guard, smash his face.
No diggedy.

I agree, and for once me and Gooner are on the same page.

You know who's left out ?

Tyson Griffin.

I mean Griffin must be completely pissed right now. He's truly the most exciting fighter who also beat Guida in what I feel was the fight of 2007.

But Griffin can be rather boring, I understand.

Florian won't beat Huerta. Griffin will give Huerta problems, but so did Guida and Guida was right there? And still lost.

I dont like Huerta, but he's a fighter. He is gonna keep coming and coming. He needs a fighter who will fight him not intimidated and just give him problems.

UFC LW division is arguably a compilation of the best MMAartists in the world.

I love it! So many great potential matchups

The only problem with having Huerta/Florian for the number 1 contender is that it would mean a long layoff for the Sherk/Penn winner...Any chance they have the champ fight after only a few months against Huerta at 87?

i like both of these fighters, so id like to see one of them get a title shot. i think that it would be a dynamite fight, with kenny using his jiu jitsu to get a sub or into a dominant position to end the fight. i cant see huerta finishing it, though he could win a war of a decision

The problem with Griffin is he doesn't finish fights, he wins a lot and is an exciting fighter but he goes to the decision too much for the UFC to market him, I agree with you on the LW Division being stacked though awesome amount of great fights to see.

I can't stand Florian, but I think this would be a great fight. I really hope it happens. I'd be pulling for Huerta, but I think this fight is 50/50, maybe even 60/40 for Florian. It's close either way though. I like Huerta standing and he's very good scrambling. It should be very entertaining!

Kenny vs. Huerta will be an awesome match but think Kenny will come out victorious in this fight since he has improved alot in his stand up.

I have a feeling that Florian would pull out the win by TKO due to strikes on the ground... he is on a roll at the moment and has vicious elbows. I would be pulling for Huerta though.
