Mac Danzig vs. Mark Bocek
Lost in the mix of the other great fights was Mac Danzig's excellent outing. I was very impressed with how effectively he used his knees, and also with how tough Bocek was. That kid ate some devastating knees and punches and kept right on fighting.
At 2 different points in the fight it seemed like Mac held back his hands because Bocek was so injured, and that he was looking for the ref to stop the fight without having to inflict any more damage.
FWIW, I told my pals Mac would finish with a rear naked choke and he did. I just had a feeling. I think Bocek was just so beat up that he was unable to defend the choke any longer.
Anyway, a very dominating performance for Danzig. I look forward to seeing him fight again.

I agree, this was probally the best fight of the night imo. Danzig did look great and Bocek is definately a game fighter. I really enjoyed this fight!

Fun scrap, nothing special. Danzig is a middle of the pack lightweight at best.
The Urijah Faber 1 foot knee was awesome thou.

The one leg knee was excellent, as were many of the other knees he threw. I think you may be underestimating Danzig, Rumbin. He will need to step up in quality for us to be sure, but Mac seems pretty strong, has decent strikes and good TD Defense and decent BJJ Defense as well. He seems very focused right now, and I look for him to keep improving.

Danzig is a good fighter but nothing special. Like I said he is a middle of the level lightweight, most of the guys at the top run all over him (BJ, Sherk, KFlo, etc).

Without seeing any of the prelims (UFC still hasn't posted them ) I thought this was fight of the night. Hats off to Bocek for hanging in there as long as he did after the tides turned in the 1st round. Much better fight than I was anticipating.

Rumbin, I am not riding Mac's jock, but neither am I convinced Sherk or Kenny would dominate him. Penn might be another matter though.
About 2 more wins for Mac and I would love to see him fight Florian. FatCat, so far I give Bocek the "Biggest Heart" award (I haven't seen the prelims yet either). Dana White should make Starnes watch a 6 hour loop of that fight.

I think Griffin, Guida, Tavares, Diaz, and Edgar all take out Danzig. I respect your opinion so I guess we shall disagree.
How can you say Sherk wouldnt tool Danzig, his takedowns are world class and he would pretty much take down Mac at will IMO.

It's just an opinion Rumbin. I think Mac is a bit big for Sherk, and would possibly submit him when the fight hit the ground. I am sure it could go a different way as well. I would take Danzig vs Guida and Edgar for sure, have to think about the other ones.
Again, I am not jumping on a Danzig bandwagon, I just see improvement and like his mindframe at the moment. I hope he fights again soon.

We haven't seen nearly enough from Mac at this level to formulate an opinion yet. He struggled to finish a guy that was steamrolled by Frank Edgar who is much smaller than both of them. Actually, I'd like to see Danzig vs. Edgar. Then we can start talking about who he can and can't beat.

Ive seen about 10 Danzig fights I would guess and have never been impressed. Ask him how it feels like to be MACH'd

I've seen a handful too, I was referring more to him in the UFC. It seems to change a fighter either for the best or the worst. Hehe, Sakurai whopped him.

At 170, where Sherk had to shoot in on a guy who was jabbing him from across the ring.

I really enjoyed this fight, Danzig did really well to come back from the early pressure. Bocek impressed me too, even if his fighting style isn't my favourite to watch, he seemed strong and powerful on the ground and had a good few flurry's when he was on his feet.
On a side note did anyone notice as the fight went on Bocek started to look more and more like an ork?
He did a similar thing in his previous fight but not so much.

We have not really seen enough of Mac at this point to know how good he will be so I say lets just give the guy a chance. I believe he has the potential to make some noisy in the LW division but it does seem like he does not match up very well w/ guys that are solid wrestlers so it will be interesting to see this all plays out.....

I think Mac might win this fight, and he would possibly win or at least be competitive against all but the top 2-3 guys. I would like to see Danzig vs Edgar, and any number of other matchups that are available.
I think Mac has his head on straight and is tending to business these days, where that might not have been the case as much a few years back. Maturity maybe? I dunno. Let's wait and see.

i thought danzig would have the advantage because of experience, and i was impressed how he ripped through his TUF competition. bocek was a chance because he's a black belt in bjj, but when it went to the ground he didnt look very impressive. danzig was actually closer to getting a submission when he transitioned from triangle to omoplata. the knee in the second round was pretty brutal, at first i thought bocek was out cold. i commend him for fighting on. i round 3 danzig just overwhelmed bocek, i think bocek just wanted out by the time he gave up his back
