Cool

Gurgel-Hominick is a better comparison. Hominick ran away most of the match, and he still won that F'n match. The difference would be that at least Hominick landed quality shots when he was in close enough, and Gurgel could not get a hold of Hominick. I think that Quarry ought to have stood in the center of the octagon and made Starnes have to come to him. I would have just stopped chasing Starnes and looked at the referee. "Dude, WTF?" But, Quarry wanted to KO the crap out of Starnes. THAT would have made that crowd cheer!

I would have liked to have seen the cards. Somehow I doubt it was 10-8, 10-8, 10-8. Honestly, it would have been hard to score it 10-8 in round 1. I mean, sure it was a whoopin, but it wasn't totally lopsided. However, I probably would have scored it worse than 10-8 in round 3.

I've said for a while that the only way the 10 point must system can work in a 3 round fight is if you see more 10-8, 10-7 type scoring.

Top Army Fighter had an interesting MMA point system. They rated take downs as 2-point and 3-point takedowns depending upon the dominance of the takedown and the position of the guy on top. But, if a fighter releases the downed opponent and allows that opponent to stand up, then the top guy will lose two points to the opponent for poor position. They also rate punches and kicks by the point. So, according to that system, Nate Quarry would have had like 100 points and Starnes would have barely had 10 points, LOL.

At what point does turning your back and running away become a penalty situation? I feel it puts the fighter in danger (opening themselves up to accidental rear strikes) and is just bad form. One of the UFC judging criteria is "Effective Aggressiveness" and this seems to be just the opposite.
I'm no scoring expert & I haven't read the other responses yet...but I would say if it happens more than twice in a round...then YES.
Not everyone has Cabbage or Hunt's cast iron skulls, so there shouldn't be any real shame in extracting yourself from a very bad position when needed. But if it happens repeatedly or if it's just a flatout way to avoid engaging at all...then most certainly they should start deducting points immediately, IMO.

Your right with that, I was assuming it was 10-8 all 3, it might have been
10-9 10-8 10-7, that would make more sense.

I honestly believe that Starnes is a very skilled fighter w/ atleast 1 quality win but 1 of the quickest ways out of the UFC is to run away like that. The "trying to wear down" startegy absolutely does not apply here either. It seemed to me that he had completely given up on trying to win the fight in the middle of the 2nd round or atleast I got that feeling.....

Cool

Just imagine for a second that while Quarry was fooling around and joking Starnes that Starnes reacted by throwing a vicious KO punch. Quarry would have been the laughing stock of MMA. But, I understand Quarry getting impatient and angry at having to chase a guy around.

I know that I would definitely have run away from Quarry as well. I mean, I am not a professional MMA fighter and Quarry would knock my head off of my shoulders. But, to watch a professional MMA fighter run away from another professional MMA fighter was just shameful. It makes me want to bash Starnes, but how can I say anything that tops his own actions.

I have never liked Starnes. I hope the UFC sends him down to the lower promotions.
