UFC vs Girlfriend... HELP!
Guys, help a brother out.
I can't get my girlfriend to appreciate mma/ UFC. We order ppv's, we watch TUF, sometimes (yuck) we even watch... Tapout. She sorta seems to like the whole "reality tv" aspect of TUF and Tapout, but when it comes down to the UFC ppv's... she's falling asleep, reading a book, giving me that "oh you're so taking me shopping after THIS GRAND WASTE OF TIME" look.
I try to explain how it's basically physical chess. How each move is a dance of balance and timing and strategy. How these fighters bring not just talent but personality into the competition, for crying out loud!
To no avail.
So, to everyone out there with girlfriends, wives, sisters, mothers, and grandmothers who watch mma... what on God's green earth initially intrigued them and finally turned them into fans?
I know the reality is that she may never come around to our way of thinking... but hell, maybe someone out there has a better approach.
Thank God she at least likes football.

Dude, dump your girl and devote yourself to Fight Forum full-time. Look at how happy I am.

When she seems disinterested just put her in a kneebar and scream "DOES THIS FEEL BORING TO YOU!? DOES IT!?"
Worked for me. Now whenever we watch mma together my wife is totally focused on the show.

Sometimes there is nothing you can do. My wife used to watch MMA with me just to humor me i think. And she will watch when GSP or Chuck are fighting but thats about it. She doesn't like to see a lot of blood or people getting brutally KO'ed. So now whenever a PPV is on , i just send her to the bar with my bank card and then do dirty unspeakable things to her when she comes home loaded

She lets you order PPV's, she'll watch TUF with you and she'll even sit through Tapout? Not to mention she likes football? Whether she appreciates what she's watching or not, sounds like a keeper to me.

Gotta take her to a live event. My fiance had absolutely no interest in MMA until I took her to UFN 13. Thank God that turned out to be one heckuva exciting night of fights! She's still not wild about it, but she never complains about it either. I'll settle for that.

She doesn't have to be a fan (unless she's paying for the PPVs and you're a cheapskate).
I prefer also having different interests in a relationship.
Girls like cats and ponies or whatever, and I like watching guys smash each other's faces in, choking them unconscious, licking their blood...
Besides, I hate watching MMA with people who are clueless and/or uninterested. If she's not into it, just forget about it.

Haha nice one Opsy.
On the girlfriend part. When i was with my ex girlfriend we used to watch MMA. She liked it, but not as much as me. She liked the blood and stuff, but couldn't see father then that. I somethimes watched an event and when see came i'd put on the bloody cool fights. But after 2 or 3 fights she wanted to do something else.
Just let her do something else when your watching. You should not force MMA on to her. It will only backfire. If you say, Hun i am gonne watch UFC so if you want you can stay but if you wanne do something else that cool to, but i am watching UFC. Just be honest, they like that.

I had same problem with my girlfriend... tried to get her interested, had some luck with the tuf serie but no major impact.
Then we watched fightgirls (horrible horrible horrible show) but now there where girls that she could relate to. Then we switched over to watching alittle EliteXC when Gina was fighting (ofcourse we had to watch all fights in the event ).
Now she is doing Muay Thai and participate in every fightnight we have at my place.
So could be worth the time to watch the good awfull fightgirls show.

Yeah, I'm pretty straightforward with her about the UFC/mma/TUF/UFN having my viewership priority (I don't really follow any other tv program). I realize the danger of trying to "force" a show on someone (flashback of Airwolf when I was a kid). I guess I just want to luck out like Opsy here!

CORRECTION, I meant luck out like JASP... if I did like Opsy, I'd sound like that sick Austrian guy who locked his daughter in a dungeon and had like 7 kids by her. Yikes.

My wife leaves the room when I watch TUF or MMA. I tend to record everything, so sometimes I just watch them when she isn't around. As for PPV's, I find if you stay at home, try and invite friends that actually have girlfriends and they can talk and entertain themselves or go to a bar with friends. Don't force her or she will start to hate it.
