In amateur boxing, punching power only plays a secondary role, if you like.
In professional boxing on the other hand it plays a primary role as rounds are scored based on ring generalship and effective aggressiveness.
A paw with a jab does not equal and real power shot, which is why I never understood how people could think James Toney should have won the first match against Samuel Peter.
